i think it's nice that the pope gave all those schaivo protesters something else to do together. you know, sort of an after-party where they can exchange phone numbers and tips about which kind of little paper cup is best for holding vigil candles, and what brand of lip balm is good for preventing tape chap.

by most accounts this pope was an ok guy with a sense of duty and humor. also, he told starving and aids-ravaged africans that condoms were sinful. also also, that cardinal law guy that presided over the boston archdiocese kiddie molestation stuff? the pope gave him a cushy job in rome, where one of his new duties is choosing a new pope.

so i hope the catholic league and will ahem forgive me if i simply note the passing of an ok guy with a sense of duty and humor, but fail to fall down and weep and convulse and wave little candles.
