some valid points. However, 2001 is based on a book, not Kubrick's imagination. Also, some of the things stated in the flash are blatantly contradicted in the book.

nm, I totally respect the 20 minute flash travel scene

A movie based on a book doesn't have to be perfectly faithful to the book to be good, in my opinion. A good example: The Shining. Great movie, great book, but two different media, and two differing stories.

I reviewed most of these points in a sci fi lit class a few years ago... but this was still very good.

nice pic vasudeva, another movie by Kubrick... however I was not putting off the movie merely the explanation of the movie as if it were only kubrick's creation. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie...I probably made no sense the last 3 posts.... sorry about that.

An interesting set of thoughts on 2001. Good art can make you think beyond the outright explicit meaning of the artist, which is the case here.

2001 is based on a collaberative story effort between Stanly Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke. In fact, its genesis is in the Clarke short story, 'The Sential'. Though Clarke's novel and Kubrick's movie share some surface variances, they share the same basic story premise with each author telling the story in his own medium. Thus, the book can, and does, explain more because it is an explict narrative.

The suppositions of this flash presentation are not supported by the historical record recorded, by Clarke, of the development of 2001. However, again, they are interesting thoughts in their own right.

I linked this like 3 years ago on Megarad, I can't even find it now (don't worry LORDKAHUNNIE, I wouldn't expect you to know this) and I remember labelling it as a 'Kubrickian Spoon-Feeding'. Not in the sense that Kubrick was responsible for it, but that it was someone feeding you the allegories and metaphors of the Kubrick piece that you should be able to figure out for yourself. I guess now I just see it as a fan trying really hard to make others appreciate the work of thier favortie filmmaker/storyteller. I can't really see anything wrong with that. Except for the part with the screaming monkeys. STFU, hairy meeps.
