Old school cold remedy/experiments in cough medicine.
Hi , sick as meep here, which rarely happens with me, and when it does, mama makes me this concoction of chopped whole lemons boiled in sugar, honey and filtered water. It is bittersweet heaven. I finished that earlier, and she will wake in an hour and insist I have another batch.
The one I'm working on is a cough medicine I can stand.
I did some research that Ricola makes some other products, like an evening tea that tastes like the cough drops, and I started considering the possibility of making a schnapps type beverage out of some. If you melt one in some water, it isn't bad, and the menthol really clears your sinuses. I found this during research and development.
For my first batch, I powdered five regular Ricola drops and mixed them into a couple of ounces of water, melted them in the microwave 20 seconds at a time,, mixed in two tablespoons of honey, and topped off a 200 Ml bottle with 80 proof vodka.
I think I would have had better results with 2 more drops, less water, same honey.
I cannot say that it is the finest thing I've sipped, but it really seems to keep the tickle in my throat down, and it fits in a 200 Ml bottle in my pocket.
And its booze, much gentler than NyQuil. That meep is "blackout in a shot" to me. I take NyQuil, and I'll be pissing in a closet somewhere instead of the bathroom.
If you have a recipe, I'd like to see it. The trial and error part of this ain't half bad....

If you stuff a garlic bulb up your meep and wait seven to ten days, your cold will be cured.

The 'hat cure' is an old home remedy. It's loosing effectiveness these days as bugs develop resistance but you could blend it in to your experiments.
1. take a hat and put it on a table
2. open a bottle of hard booze and start drinking
3. when you see 2 hats go to bed and stay there 'till you feel better
In the old days you could bring your blood alcohol level up to a point that the bugs died, that's how it worked.
