Fire Sword

Fine. I'll make a fire sword.

Started with some 18 guage sheet steel cut into sword-blade shapes with a little extra around the edge of one to create a lip.

Spent a theraputic half hour or so banging on it with a plastic hammer.
(Plastic mallet doesn't stretch or dent the steel as much)

Made a little form out of 1/4" plate to do the tip.

Now since I'm pretending to know what I'm doing, I laid the parts out and tried to puzzle out how the gas should flow through the manifold(blade).

I decided to run the gas up through the handle and put the igniter at the base of the blade.
So we start by giving the blade more depth by grooving it up the middle:

Then I welded a piece of tubing to one side, then sandwiched it together and welded up the edges:

After some careful grinding, we have a nice hollow sword shape.

Here's where it gets tricky;
I have no idea what size to make these orifices, so I'm starting with hacksaw cuts:

This is as far as I got today:

I'll pick it up during the week as time allows.

:Currently trying to imagine how to prevent the expanding gasses of ignited propane from blowing this project (and my arms up to the elbow) to smithereens.:

It should work the same as your pipe burner- the gasses will only expand when lit.

The igniter should light the gas outside the blade, not inside. You need to put one on each side of the blade adjacent to the first saw-cut. It should self-ignite up each side from there.

Dude is a meeping machine.

Thanks nigs, but how could I resist?
The pipe burner introduced me to burner manifold tech and the fire sword is a cool way to run with it.
I f#cking love when one project leads so smoothly to another.
Note to self:
Armor the f#ck up before testing.

FIRE SWORD!!!!! If I was a rock star, that is what I'd name my band.

Now I just need to get the adapter for the little bottles and make a belt for holding it and we're good to go!

Eh...I think I can fit two more slots in the blade.
Make nearly the entire length light up...

..and I bet the 20lb propane tank is an awkward addition to your utility belt...'course you could strap it on your back, like the fire-dude in
'The Running Man'

Good point.
Let's make it mobile:

Added bonus;
Turn the bottle upside down and the thing flares up loke a mofo

:like:

(sigh)

Jeebus,
Where did my meep go?
It used to be right there...

BadAss. That is all.

lol. The fact that you got that one in right before mine, makes mine better lol.

Thats a meepy meepin sword man. I'd burn meep down with it. Go meepin nuts lol. How long will that tank last you?

It lasts a pretty good amount of time.
I put on a full bottle and ran it a few minutes and there wasn't too much loss in weight.
I want to port the valve on the bottle a little to get more flow, so there's no telling.
(I want the big bottle-sized flames)

I'll make a black bag to hold the tank so it doesn't f#ck with the look of the costume.

Hahah yea, what about making a belt and stringing like five small ones together, that way you get more flame, and the weight is evenly distributed. It'd be a pain in the meep to connect them, but at least you'd have more time and bigger flame?

Can we see some night pics? I'm curious about illumination effect.

Okay. It'll be dark in a bit...

Very impressive!

Why did I just read that in Darth Vader's voice?
