Nocal Music: meh.
I get intermittent joy from sharing music. Partly it's a sad exercise in validation.
Remastered New Order/Joy Division singles if you want to hear them sound better than ever. Particularly the first singles, which are mastered very badly on official releases (Warsaw, for example).
The Smiths version is equally awesome, but significantly fewer tracks.
I anticipate a small posting streak for the holidays.

The Gun Club - Mother Juno
Fronted by a weirdo, as all the best bands are, The Gun Club was an influential LA rock band. Their influences include rockabilly, blues, and punk.
The music itself isn't especially unconventional; they have a unique sound, but between image and music, it's kind of a surprise that they didn't have even a small 80s Mtv hit. Mother Juno isn't their most cohesive-sounding album, but it is their best and their last.
Lead singer died of something-or-other. (wiki says brain hemorrhage)

Autre Ne Veut -s/t
Autre Ne Veut is a new one; it's some dude who is apparently a bit secretive about his identity. He does this weird, almost Gary Wilson-esque R&B.
It really does work. I think the singing is earnest, and being earnest can be lame in rock music (see: Chameleons vs. Joy Division). But for R&B, he can be as much a flamboyant lamo as he wants.
