I keep swearing up and down that I'll move on to other projects, and I've got a good dozen jobs lined up. -Mostly home repair meep. (This dump is falling apart)
Screw all that. I've got an heirloom to destroy.
This is the cedar chest my dad built when he was in high school:
Other than the shotgun hole my brother put in the front of it as a kid, it's in pretty good shape.
He was playing with grandpa's double-barrel. There's only the hole in front because the chest was full of blankets at the time. Rumor has it that after hearing the shot, grampa(Who REALLY hated babysitting us kids) turned over in bed and told grandma "YOU go check on him"
Dad gave it to me for safekeeping when he moved into a nicer house.
Once he got used to being in a home with indoor plumbing and new-fangled cement floors, he realized he didn't need the old thing to keep the grit out of his undies anymore.
He DID say it was too big though, and hinted that he'd like a chest like the one I'm giving away.
So I've decided to recycle.
Why do I suddenly have this huge craving for bacon?
I really, really need to buy some clamps, by the way.
I don't know how many people think making an entire box out of aromatic cedar(instead of just lining the box with it) is a good idea, but dad's held up for a good forty years.
Plus I kinda like the look.
This is a key I milled out of brass billet:
I'm going to make a brass set like this for the new box.
Pro tip: Brass is pretty, but you can't braze it unless you REALLY know what you're doing. Screw it up and you have to start all over.
