Spring Spawn Has Sprung

We had our first child today.
Healthy little girl 7lbs 6oz and two weeks ahead of schedule due to some blood pressure issues with mom. We have been in the hospital since Friday and are quite happy to have her here. Both sets of grandparents were able to make it which was awesome too.
Behold genetic perfection:

As a side note, I follow a lot of bio-tech stocks and we decided to do the cord blood banking thing in case we want to grow an ear on the back of a mouse down the road sometime.

Congrats.

Looks like wotak's.

OOOOOHHHHH!! What's her name? She is BEAUTIFUL...great specimen of a human...

Simply beautiful, JN. Your life will never be the same, and you won't mind a bit.

Good call on the cord blood. We did it for our kids, hopefully we'll get our earmaus soon, too.

Hope mom is feeling better soon.

Sleep when she sleeps...there is no other way.

^ so true. she is now your boss. Congratulations...:)

Congrats. Enjoy yourself and take lots of pictures, in 18 years you'll be wondering what the meep happened.

Awwww, she's a cutie. Nice swordsmanship, sailor.

Make sure Mommy get's lots of hugs and kisses. The first few weeks can be tough for them.

As stated above, learn to sleep when your new human sleeps. It's going to be a while before that little girl figures out the night/day, sleep/play thing.

Take photos of everything. She'll be 5 before you know it and 15 before you can believe that many years have gone by... and in little girl age, 15 is like 25, so you also have that to look forward to.

Enjoy your brand new, busier, less relaxing life.

Congratulations, she's so pink and lovely.

Start saving for college. Right now.

In fact, you're a month behind already.

Having a child is a beautiful thing man. You will have something to love more than life itself . So how is your wief and my child doing tonight? Spankerchief speaks with a straight tongue on that. My baby girl is now a freshman kicking $36,000 a year out of ole dad.

Congratulations. Your heart now lives outside of your body for the rest of your days.

Day two is going pretty well for mom and babe. We are still in the hospital for a day or two but Mom was able to come off IV and get out of bed which was a huge relief. Breast feeding is going better than my wife thought so that is a real positive in m eyes. We were also flooded with visitors this afternoon which was a nice break for wify.

Wearing my proud papa hat with fresh footprints on it, I returned to work today only to be greeted with a layoff. A pretty heartless move after 8 years if I don't say so myself. I'm more of an atheist but I would like to believe in meep for a day just to condemn a couple of souls to it.

Luckily I have a small savings cushion until I figure out whats next. If I can take anything positive from it at least I get some much needed time off to welcome my family back into our home and finish my grad school semester. Its not really a rock-star career change but I am considering seeking a 'critical need' science position in the public school system. Although my background is in economics I was inspired by a couple of really great science teachers in grade school and have always wanted to give that back.

We do also plan to start the Florida pre-paid college fund as soon as possible. She might get a scholarship to Harvard but if not at least she will be able to chose from one of our many pretty good state schools (go gators/go owls).

That was basically the same cigar I got from my employer after my last boy was born. It's a meep but things are working out ok for us a year into it. It's been good for the children to have a parent with them constantly but being unemployed get's hella boring for the parent.

Good luck with your career change and good luck with your beautiful little global warmer.

NB: Weeks of research have led me to the above but I must admit I have not yet had one. You may be more comfortable with medium well; that's cool too.

Congrats Man. Load the shotgun.

It is my belief that all newborns resemble Winston Churchill

Congratulations dude.

<img src = "http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs516.ash1/30434_118385188205068_100001007630347_101612_2061863_n.jpg" So yeah, I I have been a little bit quiet on the internets but I've been lurking around a bit. I still am unemployed unfortunately but I have been really enjoying having the time to spend with our daughter. For those who have not experienced a newborn it is hard to describe what its like to watch one develop from the slimy little alien to an expressive little human. Our daughter has started smiling and even laughing a bit over the last month or so which is heartwarming beyond belief. I have also been getting her in the water and even took her for her first boat ride and ocean swim down in the Florida keys last weekend.

Notably as my first big parental change I have broken down and added a minivan to our family fleet. Since the last car I purchased was a race-car and this is considerably less cool I have dubbed it the shame-van :(

First, your daughter is beautiful.

Second, why did you buy a minivan when you only have 1 child?

I have noticed this phenomenon and never gotten an answer before. You are a couple, you're fine with a sedan. Or SUV. You get pregnant and you become this whole different species.

Grabbing onto parenthood like you're the first people ever to have a baby (its pretty adorable in my opinion). Including meep out to grab a minivan.

When you're new family addition takes up less space than a pile of laundry.

Splain please.

Aw, she's cute as meep.

The whole being unemployed while having a newborn around is pretty bittersweet. I love the time I have to spend with them but I wish I was back to work. Hopefully the work meep's will get better for you (and me).

Also, I'm with Heather on this one. Why minivan up before you've run out of seating in the sedan? My wife puts a booster for the 4yo and a full car-seat for the 18mo in the back of her sedan and still has room for the 16yo and myself. Plus we could fit like 3 dead meep's into the trunk...

Thanks for update.

We basically picked up the van as a baby tank. We both drive smallish hatchbacks and after our first couple of small trips with two dogs, baby gear and our own meep it became clear that it would be much more comfortable for everyone to have a van in the mix. Although the dogs probably were pretty happy about riding shotgun while the wife and kid were in the back of the hatchback. We are still both commuting and running errands in the smaller cars for economy but after the fist trip to the keys in the van I have to say it was was well worth the relatively small investment to pick it up.

HAHAHA

Just remember, a minivan will never be cool, no matter how decent the sound system is :D

Well, I guess you could drop the body a few inches, throw on some ultra-wide, white lettered, low profiles with deep dish racing wheels, tint the windows blacker than the Gulf of Mexico, chop the exhaust short and at least retain a tiny bit of street cred while soccer moming around town...

Wow I guess I have been away for a long time. It seems like just yesterday that your meep was all puckered up over the wedding.... She is a beautiful baby. Is she yours?

I'm pleased to have a positive update to my situation.

Just a week before students arrive I was picked up as science teacher in the public school system. Since it was the subject taught by some of my most inspirational teachers I have secretly wanted to teach science for years and finally have the opportunity. It will be a bit of an uphill road since my degree is in an unrelated field but certainly not insurmountable. Sure its not tech-job money but the time off is great as are the health benefits including coverage for my spawn. Besides, haven't you seen that kick-meep new coolio video with the teacher reaching out to intercity youth?

Also, I put together our daughter's highchair in honor of her moving up to spoon-fed rice cereal. Bow before her adorableness.

my apologies to any twitterites for the double posting

Excellent news, TN!

Thanks for the update.

I had an interview the other day but I think I meeped it up when I leaned right and farted while answering a multitasking question...

You have uploaded your adorable baby to some cheesy fahgsite and they have lost it.
Good going pops.
