Languages

What kind of foreign languages do some of our swarmers speak? What's everyone interested in? I can speak/read/write Japanese at some kind of elementary level. I would like to learn Schweizerdeutsch and Welsh. My Lineage is Swiss and Welsh, and it's part of reconnecting with the past or whatever. There seems to be a lot of Viking meepers around here, anyone grow up speaking a smattering of some sort of frozen Scandanavian language?

Well, most of these meepers are from America so they only speak one language, American. Come to think of it, that's really the only language that matters since the rest are usually spoken by filthy brown dirt animals.

You're a filthy brown dirt animal, aren't you?

I don't so much speak as read, especially elder tongues, such as this Icelandic passage naming Thor's Goat's.

I did go through a period of a couple of months, where for no reason I can determine, I started speaking in Norske, Russian and Dutch, both understanding the words and meaning, usually right after waking. It would go away after a few minutes. Hasn't recurred for several months now. These were all tongues I heard as a young child, so it may have been a memory fluke. Still remember most of my German.

Tell 'em about that time you seduced a mermaid and she taught you to speak fluent Sreeeeeq.

I found having actually liked the first of two years of Latin in highschool has been retardedly meeping helpful -- like, "maybe I once seduced a mermaid" helpful -- in figuring out what foreign-language terms might mean, especially if you have any context.

I speak fluent Marinara and a little Brooklynese

My maternal grandmother (died last year aged 102) came through Ellis Island from Norway when she was 14.
I learned to understand a lot of Norwegian in order to keep my ears from getting boxed.
Can't speak it but can still understand and read some.
I lived with a meep stepmother for a few years who was Mexican (which she pronounced "Spanish").
She taught primary school Mexican kids English as a second language in So.Cal. and never spoke much English around
the house.
I never picked up a single word of Spanish from her in silent protest.
I did pick up just a little Spanish from Rosa in Rota Spain. She also taught me to eat meep, but I was only there
for a couple of weeks and practiced much more on the latter than the former.

^ That's the kind of response I'm really glad to see. BTW, Rats live on no evil star.

I only speak English, which is what the rest of the world calls the language Wrecker calls American.

I speak a bit of german, a bit of french, and a little bit of celtic cornish, which is like a ancient regional dialect, that some people persist on calling a valid modern language and insist that local people should learn it and keep it alive for no other reason than to annoy school kids who's only dream is to leave this boring, dead end county.

i speak spanish. spent a year in spain. live close to the border of mexico. go figure -- big whoop. probably only really useful in the southwest

I am fluent in Esperanto. This will come in handy if i ever teleport back to the 1899 World's Fair.

I am fully fluent in Glossolalia

On occasions I speak 'strine' pretty good.

Being a fair dinkum ocker fella, I have a dunny, wear cozzies , live in the mulger ( or the back of burke ) , wear thongs, hate hard yakka, have bonzer mates, own a dingo, expose my brickies cleavage and am a bit of a boofhead.

Sometimes when I am dry as a dead dingo's donger I go to the rub a dub and drink too many stubbies ( or liquid amber ), then I get green around the gills and end up talking to the porcelain telephone. But I wouldnt be dead for quids.....onya

I found having actually liked the first of two years of Latin in highschool has been retardedly meeping helpful -- like, "maybe I once seduced a mermaid" helpful -- in figuring out what foreign-language terms might mean, especially if you have any context.
My high school didn't offer a real course in Latin, but I took a quarter each of Latin and Greek suffixes and prefixes which I just ate up. It has proved to be insanely useful in figuring out what the meep people are writing about.

Spod, you bloody banana-bender, the back o' Burke is spelt 'mulga', and what the bloody meep is the porcelain telephone? Any crow-eater worth his salt knows that after a full day on the turps it is all about driving the porcelain bus, you drongo.

I think we're all in debt to Dragonstaff for stating what needed to be said. I am particulary glad that these lovely children are here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic Aussie gibberish, it expressed the courage little seen in this day and age.

Most of my mother's side of the family, especially her elders and cousins, were/are all Portuguese. Most of my childhood consisted of listening to a portion of my relatives speak only in Portuguese. In my household, my mother only spoke English unless relatives were over, then she would convert back to broken Portuguese. I had a few relatives that I had seen hundreds of times, but was never able to speak to them without my mom translating.

Me and my siblings would usually just mock the relatives as they spoke their weird and speedy language, babbling about meep we probably didn't care about anyway. I did pick up a lot of words and phrases growing up, but I was too ignorant and stupid to embrace my heritage.

I also speak fluent Skreet.

I speak a little French, and would like to learn to speak Sumerian and write it in it's original cuneiform. You know, for fun.

DS you dont know meep from clay, I am a meeproach not a banana bender.

I would rather drink my own meep than to drink that chemical meep you call West End. You can praise jebus for Coopers.

You might drive the porcelain bus in SA but here we talk into the porcelain telephone or have technicolour yawns.

and....Aerial ping pong is just not football
