this Dubstep thing must continue I suppose....
Besides being a big metalhead,I grew up when electronic music was coming up, and have always been a fan of all sorts of odd and electronic filled music, Devo,Old B-52s,ELO,Beatles,Art of Noise,NIN,Rush.I married a Valley girl who then introduced me to lots of techno, all of which I liked.
My friends in Boulder would spin for hours, sometimes all day, and I got to sample a lot of that awesome and crazy high energy meep.I listened to what they ran through the radios when it was their turn, and stuff like Prodigy would run.
And I cannot wrap my head around Dubstep.Which puzzles me.Given my background, is it because I'm not dropping acid or eating Ex?
I've listened to it baked even, and I'm convinced someone is fooling around saying whatever track they posted is "great meep". I don't see it breaking any new ground.A lot of it sounds like old recycled soundtrack snippets and stuff I've heard mixed up before, or things very similar.
Prove me wrong, or right Linkswarm, if you'd like.Because As long as it isn't new stuff from the Clearchannel stations,I usually like it,or at least appreciate the skills and songwriting. The college station here is the one worth listening to.That show is on while I sleep.
You has good dubstep?

Within the past year I've discovered dubstep and I enjoy it. Lots of dissonance, easy to dance to, fat deep bass tracks that meep with your head. Plus the dark warped texture of most dubstep accompanies mind altering substances pretty well.

Emphasis on a complex bottom end is what my dubsteppin' friends told me when I was introduced. My guess is that you just haven't heard it properly, if you haven't noticed that distinction. You can't listen to dubstep without the bass doing the bumpin'.

I don't get your question.
It's music. You listen to it.

Most dubstep is boring/repetetive/mickey mouse/unoriginal, but I've heard some fun stuff in my travels. You might like Ana Sia or Heyoka.

I think what MstrLance is trying to say is that if you don't have a subwoofer, you're probably missing alot of the sound. Dubstep definitely has an emphasis on the low side of the aural spectrum, so listening to dubstep on a pair of cheap headphones will probably not give the full effect.
Or maybe you just won't like it anyways...

I have to agree with wotak, it's just music, listen to it.
Music is neither good nor bad, it cannot hurt you or make you do anything against your will, you will not become a compulsive masturbator or a meepual fiend if the music has meepual overtones or obscene lyrics, you will not take drugs because a song tells you to.
Basically its just notes thrown up into the air, like it or hate it.
Nobody really cares anyway ( except maybe Xtian republicans...lol? ).
I have not discovered 'dubstep' yet but I will defintely look into it.

The guy who put this together calls himself 'Mt. Eden.' He's a newcomer on the scene (from New Zealand, I think) but he drops some pretty wide meep. He's perfect for a noob such as yourself to understand what this is about. But wait, there's more. This track is a dubstep mix of this really ethereal trance number that Delirium put down some years ago. Sarah McLachlan on vocals. The Delirium track was actually on the album (Tranceport- Paul Oakenfold) that got me into electronic music as a whole, way back in high school.
If you can't feel this, you can safely say that dubstep isn't your cup o' tea.

Like it or not, though, I suggest going to a show. Dubstep is one of those genres that lends itself especially to live shows. The dupstep live effect is almost as drastic as the blues live effect.

True, it's always better live with an energetic crowd. But that goes for all electronic dance music, I think.

Almost all music (not Led Zeppelin) is better live. Some types are... more... better... than other types. Dubstep is one of the most better types.

I used to half-meep like dubstep but now that R_P has claimed an appreciation for it, I have come to understand that it's a meep waste of time for emo kids to have discovered ages ago, way before it sold-out and went mainstream for the conformist crowd.
I'll just stick to the underground Meep-Core scene. Meep-Core will never sell-out and go all mainstream conformist.

By the way, here is the delirium song I was gushing about. I must have forgotten that this wasn't actually the original. It makes sense, now, because I don't like delirium and have always thought that this song was way more awesome than the rest of their stuff. The version Mt Eden meeped with, the one that helped push me down the techno road, with is the Tiesto mix 'in search of sunrise.' Unfortunately, this song doesn't really translate beauty nearly as well when taken by itself. If you have an hour to burn and you want to risk it on possibly experiencing one of those rare, beautiful moments, I suggest NOT listening, and going to lala.com and listening to Tranceprt by Paul Oakenfold instead (this track is basically the breakdown of the album). This is considerably less risky if you're already into trance.
If not, just listen to this:
