Dilemma

My wife received a phone call that she screened to voice mail this afternoon. It was from an old friend that she hasn't spoken to in quite some time. This person has been posting the last couple of days on facebook about one of her kids needing a kidney transplant. The message was tearful 'I have a big favor to possibly ask of you. I'll call you later-

We're really torn about this. I can see being a living kidney donor to a family member but to someone you hardly know anymore? It's not like donating bone marrow or blood.

Decider: Admin

Bone marrow transplants are excruciatingly painful. As for your dilemma, I have no clue, Chuck. I'll take another tile.

She sounds pretty meeping desperate.

Start posting on Facebook how much you need a big-screen TV.

I think we'll go ahead with testing if she asks. I'd add the stipulation that we'd have to rule out the possibility of being suitable doors for our own child. Just as a precautionary measure should the very unlikely need arise in the future.

I'm with Ninja. meep 'em. There is a system in place for this kind of thing, and if there isn't a system, there is the black market, ice baths and rufies.

Don't do it.

I need you to focus on building a better toaster than Dragonstaff. Damned if I'm shipping that box to meeping AUSTRALIA.

i guess it really depends on whether or not there was some kind of falling out or if it was just a matter of drifting distant, and how close they were to begin with.

keep in mind that donating a kidney does involve some risk.

Its always good to offer a hand, a dollar, a lift. A kidney, however is in a different category. This person is obviously desperate.I dunno what to say. People get sick and die.I'm not sure I'd consider donating a kidney to anyone who isn't blood related, and most of my relatives would die waiting on me to cough one up.

I would give my liver or my eyes to anybody who asked. meep, you can have them now.

I've only got one kidney, since about a month after birth. Don't give her my number.

LOL! Way to consider your fellow man. I'd have to go with the majority, a kidney is worth a lot of pain and suffering, might not work and frankly I don't know you that well.

Chances are blood types and so forth wouldn't match anyway.

It turns out she's looking for a place to stay. She didn't bring up the living donor thing while she and my wife were talking last night. Her and her husband moved away about two years ago and their eldest son (he's 20) stayed behind. We'd be glad to have her stay with us until they sort out what's going to happen with her son. He may be discharged from the hospital in the next couple of weeks. Once they figure out how and where the dialysis can be done, she'll either take him with her or she and her husband may end up moving back here.
