New House: 18th Century Farmhouse

So I just bought a new house:

View of the old wing of the house, circa 1700's.

It has a walk-in fireplace... WALK-IN FIREPLACE. And the insides have been fully restored.

The new wing of the house circa late 1800's. Nice patio.

Part of the 3 acres. 90 to the left are sheep, llama's (plural "llama"?), cows, goats. Horses are raised across the street.

Oh yeah, and it has a 3000 square foot barn that I want to restore into a garage.

The result of patiently saving during the bull market, some inheritance, and a fortuitous job shift. Also, being a first time home buyer makes getting into a house all sorts of easy... I was also able to get the price down pretty far.

Unfortunately no ghost stories yet, but I plan on some awesome Halloween decorations.

That's a beautiful home. Congratulations.

Nice buy Broddah. Those beautiful old places can be expensive and time consuming to maintain but they're worth it in my opinion.

I was looking at one last week for restoration. It was a bit to far gone for me but someone will scoop it up. It's sitting on 5 acres 15 minutes west of lake Huron and priced at 20K cash or 30K land contract.

I did find a place with 4 acres and a pond about 20 miles west of where I am right now. I'm buying it from my Uncle on a land contract for 50K. It's not a farm house but it's got a huge 4 car garage out back, is sided by a wooded lot so I can hunt in my yard and it's a family deal with no banks involved (++).

Here's an overhead from Google Maps cuz I haven't taken any shots of the property yet:

Anyway, good luck with your new purchase. I hope you can grow old and enjoy visiting with your grandchildren there some day.

Fantastic, Congrats! We just bought as well. Similarly I have been saving and living modestly while most of my friends bought into the Bubble market in the last few years. The wif & I found a $600k house close to the beach and bought the short sale for under $300k (expensive sounding but a deal around these parts). It took a lot of patience with the deal taking 187 days to close. Locked our interest rate at 5% too. WOOT

As a bonus, we got this immovable 800lb marble faux painted cement David on our pool deck swinging meep which peers eerily into my office window.

I've considered routing my keg tap though is meep for general utility but can't figure how to keep the lines cool.

Wife has been gainfully employed for 14 years with the same employer. Also, property around here has plummeted in value to less than 1/3 of what it was 5 years ago. The time is perfect to pick up some acreage and in this economy it's also a perfect time to have enough land to raise some livestock on. I plan on a few pigs and a couple of feeder cows.

Also, area I'm buying in has a lot of undeveloped land for sale surrounding the 4 acres I'm buying. When I do get back to work, I hope to buy up some of that as well. I'm thinking long term and this is the smartest thing for my family at this juncture.

Truenative:

You can just get some coil copper pipe that matches the diameter of the beer feeder tube; drill your feeder hole, then drill the tap hole to meet it. It would require a certain amount of modification, but you could connect the new tubing into the refrigeration system of the kegerator. When you have everything prepared, run the feeder tube through the cooling coil up to the nozzle.

That place looks awesome man...When you get more desperate, have a kegger.

I like beer.

meep, that farmhouse makes me wet. Congrats, holmes.

I love your country kitchen & that table too.
