Rock And Roll
Since I've been off work, I've been playing Mr. Mom during the days and plunking around in my recording studio a bit in the evenings. I haven't done any serious jamming in a couple of years and with all this free time I've decided to schedule a few jams with old friends. I was talking to an old friend last night about getting together and the conversation drifted off into our favorite music.
We both grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Clapton, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane etc etc but he's about 10 years older than me. In his 20's he was into Love and Rockets, Throbbing Gristle, Crass, Bauhaus etc etc. In my 20's I was into the Grunge thing coming out of Seattle. I was a huge Nirvana fan and I'm still quite fond of that era. I especially still enjoy the more obscure stuff.
Anyway, he didn't recognize a few of the tunes I was trying to tell him about so I told him I'd make a journal entry and send him a link of videos to check out. So, here you go Jon.

Kurt and Nirvana inspired a lot of other bands that I also enjoy.
Seether is one of them... He's got the Kurt vocal down but his lyrics are lacking on most of his stuff.

heh, maybe you lil nublets haven't heard of this little band called nirvana
if you like nirvana, you ought to like the similar (and superior) meat puppets. started by the kirkwood brothers in arizona, they were a conventional punk band on SST records (a label shared with blag flag, minutemen, etc). fairly quickly they shifted to something obnoxiously labeled "cowpunk," which is basically country that doesn't blow meeps. throughout their career, the music slowly turned a bit more psychedelic, reflecting what was apparently some pretty serious drug use.
they were friends with nirvana, and nirvana covered their song "lake of fire" during their famous unplugged sessions on Mtv.

I have Severed Goddess Hand around here somewhere. They are a great band that I didn't know about until the Nirvana MTV Unplugged guest appearance they made. I went right out and picked up that LP after I saw that show. I posted Plateau from that show, above.
