Effexor XR
Yeah, I'm a dork, but aren't we all? Anyway, dealing with going off meds. yikes. Effexor XR specifically. Everytime I would forget to take one, I would get this intense vertigo feeling and electric jolt like feelings in my body. I actually ran out, and don't have a new prescription, but I think that's a good thing. I don't drink much anymore, but when I did while the Effexor was in my system, I would be like 10X more drunk than should be- falling down ,meeped up drunk, and it would hit me in an instant (I've been told). One minute just buzzed and normal, and then BOOM, wasted city. I actually drank a few beers and smoked a little the last week and my husband was all "wow, you weren't falling down drunk!"
How horrible, eh? AND I think the effexor made me crave alcohol as well. Horrible, wicked meds. Anyone else have experiences w/ antidepressants, Effexor specifically?
Also, my doctor when he prescribed the Effexor said to not make any rash decisions for the next 6 months after starting on it. He said he had patients who would get divorced, quit their jobs, do weird irresposible things. I was all, "ha, not me!" yeah right.
I am interested to know if anyone knows how long the withdrawals last?

I am on effexor xr. I have been for about 7 months now. As far as stopping them cold turkey, that's a bad idea. You started them gradually, you need to stop them gradually. The side effects only get worse over time from your system going into shock and can trigger seizures, strokes, meep tulips. You name it. Good luck though.
" I would get this intense vertigo feeling and electric jolt like feelings in my body."
those shock feelings are meeping awful.
I hear ya on the booze thing too, but you're not supposed to drink with effexor. your doctor should have told you this. The main reason people die from effexor is because of drinking. If you think that's bullmeep, I have first hand knowledge of this. And drinking while going through withdrawals can be even worse. meeping with your already meeped brain chemistry is never a good idea.
I can, however, recommend the kind bud. It helps tune down the shocks and vertigo enough, but not for very long.
How long ago did you stop taking your meds?

cube - are you sure it was effexor? because you would need to snort a pretty penny's worth to get any instant effects, and even then I don't see how it would be very pleasant. That's like saying you got high on prozac.

Guitarjon; I love you bro ,but please STFU.
This ain't yer average case, it's the bullmeep meds she never needed in the first meeping place that is the problem. What the meep is wrong with California ? I've been seeing friends meeped up by perscription meds since I was in high school.
Get off all meep, Sarah.
meeping talk to me.

Ghost: I'm not saying she should be back on it because it's good for her. I'm just saying that gradually reducing the dosage over a couple weeks is better than just stopping all at once. The physical side effects can be bad, and she doesn't need to end up in a hospital over it.
I hate these meep pills. I wish I could stop taking them. But until I can afford conventional therapy and I'm in a position where my parents aren't calling the shots, I'm sort of meeped. hopefully I'm off of them by the 12 month mark.
no need to get all shouty, Grumprider. :<

There was a time in my life when my friends and I would pretty much do any pill that was in front of us. Someone had picked up some of this effexor from another friend and we just did it one night as part of a game called mystery pill (random pills on a table, pick one and do it).
Stupid? Yes. Idiotic? Yes. Fun? sorta. I wouldn't condone or recommend such behavior. Use it responsibly

So Sarah, good luck in your endeavor. I know nothing of this drug but apparently there is one here willing to help you. Talk to him.
GJ: Why are the parents still calling the shots?
Dr cube: ahhhh, the whole reason for this post: Hi, where have you been, long lost stranger?

I started taking effexor xr when i was 12 and took it until i was 14. I decided that the effexor wasn't doing anything for me so i quit cold turkey and i remember about 2 months of meep near passing out when i stood up too fast and i would get a tingling or "electric" feeling right before a feeling of pain whenever i bumped into anything. Being young i was able to get back to normal after about three months but i don't know how long it would take an adult. It's funny that you said that your doctor told you not to make any major decisions because four months after i quit i decided to move across the country to my aunt and uncles house, a decision that i probably wouldn't have made while on the effexor. After quitting i realized that i wasn't content living in a tiny house with someone i barely knew so now I'm living in a big house with 4 people i barely know. Case in point: effexor sucks and i agree that you should slowly take yourself off of it.

"Everytime I would forget to take one, I would get this intense vertigo feeling and electric jolt like feelings in my body. "
I took this meep for about a year.
SAME meep meep HAPPENED TO ME. Gnarly nausea, same 'shocked by lightning bolt' feeling. What a meeping disaster that meep is. The withdrwals, even with a tapered dose, lasted more than 2 weeks. If your off of the meep STAY off of it. Good luck and suicide.
meep should be against the law, or at least carry a warning label.

I stopped taking them (ran out of them...no doctor appt. for 3 weeks ) 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I actually feel better than I first did. What makes me a little irritated is that I had this prescription from the state I used to live in, just moved to this state, and I made a doctor's appt. to 1) get on wellbutrin to help w/ smoking and possibly be an alternative to effexor, and 2) well, I guess no 2, ha ha, but to get off the eff. I asked the doctor, should I get a smaller dose to wean off of it? "Oh,no... just take the wellbutrin w/ the effexor for 2 weeks than stop taking the effexor. " Yeah, right. It just seems that the doctors aren't educated on how strong this drug really is. I am doing a lot better, yeah, I shouldn't drink and I rarely do now, I know I am lucky that I didn't kill myself from it. And I know that if you drink w/ wellbutrin, it can cause seizures. Ha ha, "kind bud", I KNOW... but i don't hardly smoke it and when I do I get REALLY paranoid... lol... I know that goes away... my husband smokes... so I have access...

I have actually checked out that crazy meds site before. Very scary, sad meep.
I thought I was crazy when I experienced those symptoms... the only reason I found out other people experienced them too is that there was a blurb about it on the msn home page, strangely enough.
lilbaby: MUWAHHH!
yes, this should seriously be taken off the market. It makes me mad that no one told me this would happen. Either suffer through the horrible withdrawals or take it for the rest of your life. And they make money off of you!
grrrrrr.

No, I'm extremely calm nowadays and it takes a lot to get my blood pumping. I take it solely because I had/have a nasty case of anxiety.

^what I meant is, the second week of being off of it, I would have total mood swings. I would be happy, then irrated, then sobby all in the space of about 5 minutes. Not fun at all. I feel much more stable now. knock on wood I do think it did help me in certain ways... not depressed/ anxiety... I am going to try and go med free. Scary!
