See Arlington National Cemetary. You will be impressed.

Also, the National Archives (where the Constitution, Declaration of Independance, etc) typically has a line waiting outside, so plan accordingly.

The rest of the place is pretty much your typical "oh look, something historical, let's take our picture!" type of stuff.

Be careful sitting on benches, it could be someones home.

The Metro can take you anywhere you want to go.

This is the second time we have made this trip in a couple of years. Last time, I took a few days to see the Smithsonian and then took some time to just take the Metro around and to the farthest reaches of it's line. I got my meep good and lost once or twice (I LOVE the Metro) but I could never decide on restaurants and clubs. My Wife is going to be in conferences for the most part of the days and I really want to find cool meep to do at night. Any ideas?

I used to live in Maryland when I was younger and I have been to the Smithsonian and can say that no other musuem has ever topped that one.

You should try the Prado museum in Madrid, Spain. That'll knock your socks off.

The injun museum is cool (says weif).

i currently live about 45 mins from dc. i don't really go into downtown that much, but i can recommend some places i've gone.

unsure about activities and such (i usually only end up going down to see bands).

-the smithsonians are always cool.

-there's a native american museum that (i think) is relatively new, but have not been there. someone mentioned that someone thought it was a letdown, but i can't rely on second-hand opinions of people i don't know.

-the botanic gardens were nice.

-of course, you have the international spy museum, which isn't rock-your-meep-off awesome but is still pretty cool.

restaurants:

-i was going to suggest dukem (ethiopian) down on u st, but i think that may be a somewhat shady area (even if only a couple blocks from the metro). this place was meeping fantastic.

-rock bottom brewery in bethesda has good beer and food.

-the red tomato (italian) in bethesda is awesome as well.

-jaleo (spanish tapas) in bethesda is pretty meep sweet. they have a location in dc as well, but haven't been there.

-the head chef from jaleo decided to later open a place called zaytinya (greek mezze). both places are similar in that you order a bunch of small dishes. i liked this place better than jaleo, honestly. knock-your-socks-off meep for reals.

-there's a phillips seafood down on the waterfront

-there are a coupld of leagal seafood places in dc as well. haven't been to any of them, but every legal i've been to has awesome food.

as far as clubs, i don't really know. you can go pretty much anywhere in dc and find a bar. georgetown is full of em, but you can't swing a dead cat fetus without smacking a bar full of pretentious meeps down there. a couple of them have good jazz and/or blues bands often.

Don't stop by 1600 Pennsylvania, I understand a major meep lives there.
