Forum Hassles
Jconserv, the meeping meeps who hosted my forum, deleted it off their server due to "illegal content". I had over 13,000 posts, 10,000 threads and tons of other meep that took 2 years to build. meeping meeps.
My question, is, does anyone know how to create a forum that isn't hosted by some meepgity cheap-meep server with bullmeep Terms of Services? I don't want to have to tip-toe around porn and adult language.
Any help make me not unhappy.

You could host your own. If you have a dynamic IP, you can just redirect it from some public web space - like if you get a small amount of web space from your ISP where you can post a redirect page with your current IP. I've done this for years and it works great - no hassles, and you can run your own custom programs without needing anyone's permission.

Wow. That is profoundly meep.
I have to point out that even in my most floundering dilettante years I would have probably dismissed out of hand any service that charged extra for a backup of your own data, as you once told me Jconserv did.
You should also.
If they're worth your time and pocketchange, they'll have no problem letting you keep control of your data without extra financial coaxings.
Not sure what you paid for those meepgots, but I can't recommend Hurricane Electric enough. They were recommended to me by a guy I used to work for who ran a pretty successful ISP and whose networking mojo far outstrips mine, and they never did me wrong. In fact, they hooked me up on several occasions. Their entry-level service might be -- I haven't looked, cause I'm drunk and dealing with an outage at work, ell oh ell -- but it might be $25/month.
However, they are not pillow-biting meepgots who will hold your data hostage until you choke up an extra $10.

Dent, easy.
So long as you're on a hosting plan that includes php and mysql, just google for phpBB (jconserv.net uses this), download, follow the readme.txt instructions (which will be, 'edit such and such a file with your mysql dayabase connection details' - you set that meep up from inside your web hosting control panel), then you upload everything to your server as per the instructions and commence rocking out.
I think it's a meepty thing for jconserv to do, but it can't hurt to badger them for a copy of your forum database (they must have it as a backup somehwhere) - you could plug this into your own install of phpBB and get everything back?
