I'm amazed that no one has started a topic on this show. I watch it religiously, and can never get enough of it. Anyone else?

I miss Edgar.

I was happy when Samwise Gamgee got kilt.

I was sad when Edgar died.

I was all "WOOT" when Jack shot Robocop's wife in the leg. That rocked.

You're not alone on this one Dent, been watching since season one. Best episode ever though was the finale where Jack just sat in his car and started srying before taking the call from CTU and driving off.

meep no, Secret Service agent Aaron is really Jack's father. It's obvious.

For some 24 fun you should check out some of the ridiculous meep people argue about in the IMDB forums.

Vas, you know you can start watching it on A&E and that superstation channel from Chicago right?

i think 'the shiled' and '24' are the two best shows on tv.

of course, 'the shiled' was on for like 4 weeks and 24 is on for like 40.

if you download 24, you won't see commercials. without commercials, jack bauer will cease to exist. to prevent this from happening, jack bauer will track you. relentlessly. then? he will kill you. his method is not unlike freddy kreuger, even though jack was the originator. despite how far you run, regardless of where you hide you will need to sleep. that is when jack will get you.

i am waiting for sunday (THE LORD'S DAY) like a good patriot. this will cement me as jack's right hand man.

I was watching 24 this november and the next day in the polling booth I saw Jack Bauer's face before me, grimacing, as he watched me vote for democrats and greens and socialists. He whispered in my ear, "I can never beat the terrorists if the democrats raise the minimum wage."

I had to vote republican.

Seriously though, I've never watched 24 because I know if I watch the first episode then I'll have to watch all of them (but I have tried crack.)

I dont follow 24, but here is what i noticed from my roomate's season 4 marathon:

habib marwan, muslim terrorist, obvious connection here

mike novick (i had to look the character up) looks like meep cheney, his line of thinking seems to mirror as well, esp now that i read his wiki

acting president logan is under intense pressure to ignore the law and authorize torture of some terrorist dude, while he refrains he is portrayed as weak for doing so.jack bauer is portrayed as heroic for acting outside the law.

this is just what caught out of the side of my eye, and the not so subtle propaganda elements definitely add up to a decidedly pointed message.

sugarslim: mike novick (i had to look the character up) looks like meep cheney, his line of thinking seems to mirror as well, esp now that i read his wiki

Mike Novick was a judicious, fair character, and the right-hand man of the man-crush hero-president David Palmer.

Sherry Palmer and Walt meepmings are two characters who come to mind that might fill the manipulating neo-con/self-serving bureacrat role, and both are fatally flawed, non-heroic characters who are portrayed as the enemies of Jack, freedom, the American people, and yourself (who is clearly a terrorist and deserves no quarter).

acting president logan is under intense pressure to ignore the law and authorize torture of some terrorist dude, while he refrains he is portrayed as weak for doing so.jack bauer is portrayed as heroic for acting outside the law.

Logan was the epitome of the weak-minded weasel-mouthed guy who doesn't deserve office, and this became painfully clear after his first few episodes. He was hugely petty, concerned with his own safety and reputation to the detriment of the country, and colluded with terrorists in much the way conspiracy types claim Bush has done in ordering the attacks on the twin towers, etc.

Logan may be the most-hated American character the show has had, and the writers compared him to ex-president Palmer any number of times -- it was like watching the Hindenberg crash in slow motion.

Jack Bauer is a monumentally lawful character (alignment lol). The trick dynamic here is that he often flouts the smaller operating letter of the law in order to protect the greater principles, but not quite in the expedient cynical soundbite way we've seen the Bush administration do lately. (Only in the current era would I feel the preceeding sentence sounds so similar to the self-excusing propaganda we've heard that I have to include such "no, really" disclaimers.)

this is just what caught out of the side of my eye, and the not so subtle propaganda elements definitely add up to a decidedly pointed message.

Evidently you really do have to watch the show to find compelling criticisms. Don't be that guy who sent around the petition about Peter Jackson's "Two Towers" film being an attempt to cash in on the 9/11 thing.

Is torture of innocent suspects portrayed without excessive moralizing, even sometimes aggrandized? Absolutely, and I can see why that would make anyone uncomfortable with the underlying intent, despite the in-show social consequences Jack has to suffer as a result. However, at no time I can recall is the fictional administration rewarded for endangering civil liberties or abridging rights or manipulating public opinion. You wish we had a president like David Palmer, and so do I.

In short, you're going to have to trust me -- we don't have much time.

really folks, to break down the show piece by piece and regard every phrase and sentence as "mind control," and "propaganda" is not my intent, the point is the bigger picture:

shows like this only further the idea that "the ends justify the means," as long as you are working for a noble government agency

and even worse,

it appears that a TV show is now the standard against which REAL LIFE is measured (mission accomplished)

feel free to flame on, im sure Rupert Murdoch would be proud

He makes some good points but still ignores that most of the torture on the show doesn't get results; and while he recognizes the complex metaphor of the show vs. reality vs. the Bush administration, he doesn't acknowledge his own subtle departure from reality, as he pretends to be a movie critic.
