Art Critic
At work today, I drilled a 1/16th inch hole in an Alan Sapp painting. I was mounting security hardware on its frame and forgot to set the depth-stop on the drill. At an estimated price of 9 to 12 thousand dollars, it is by far the most expensive thing I've broken. I don't know what restoration work costs but I'm sure it isn't cheap.

Where on the piece is the hole? Having a professional repair for something small like that shouldn't be too expensive. The trick is finding the right person in your area. Be aware that any restoration will show under a black light unless it is done right and masked. If done well a repair or restoration usually doesn't affect the value of a piece too much at least with the older art we deal with. By the way....Security hardware, what sort?

I'm not too worried about it, more embarrassed than anything. They can't fire me for something like this. When I spoke to the professor who is in charge of the collection here said, 'That's what insurance is for-. Trentutive: I was using the Secure 'T- wall mounting system. It had a bevelled frame so I mounted it on the stretcher. Do you know of a better system for wooden frames?
