fix link? (looking forward to seeing these...do you have stories too?)

Good you survived and thanks for this unique insight. I looked around at your Site, read some articles here and there, interesting stuff.

So.... heres the link to the Katrina Pix

^ let's hear it for the boy

Lownotes:
Once again it's good to hear that you, and your loved ones are safe. The pics are indeed riveting. Looks like it's gonna take a while to get your life back in order

Best of luck.

lesson learned: during hurricane, hide under ironing board!

Tums - check Flashlight - check BIG BOOK 'O' JUDGEMENT - check One tool of justice with snazzy camo holster - DOUBLECHECK!

I fixed it. Sorry about that.

on the lighter side......your buddy blake kind of looks stoned in the picture where your dad was talking about the inverter

Good luck getting everything back together. I know it is only a matter of time before everything we have here is blown into splinters too.

He wasn't stoned. He had been up for 30+ hours cutting away debris from backroads with a crew of local men. I helped the next day, but soon the volunteer fire department showed up. They had bulldozers, so we let them have it.

I plan to post stories sometime this week. School (USM) just started back, and I'm the news editor for the paper. So, things are busy. But, I've got some crazy meep stories to tell, like waiting in line for gas while a guy we knew from town was rolling his meep off (ecstasy for the unititated). He kept running back and forth from his car in his boxers. No one gave a meep, so after a few minutes of embarrasment we just accepted it and laughed our meep off everytime he ran to his car to move up a space.

Young man, take your camera and your notepad and get out there and interview as many people as you can while the storm is fresh in their minds. Intertwine their stories with yours and write a meeping book. You'll sell a million of 'em.

I'd love to hear that old ladies story.

Jesus H. Christ, do I have to think of EVERYTHING!

Seriously though, I'm glad you made it through. A lot of folks didn't.

Now go write that book.

I can't believe the size of some of the trees that were uprooted, they've got to be over 100 years old! Thanks for sharing your photos Lownotes, can't wait to hear some of the stories. Glad to hear that you made out better than others. I hope recovery efforts go as smooth as possible for you.

TREES BAH! PUNY TREES ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO MIGHTY IRONING BOARD!

Thanks to everyone who has offered condolences. Seriously, we were just majorly inconvenienced in comparison to a lot of people, even in our own neighborhood.

I also just realized that most of you probably don't know about the MS Gulf Coast. After all, why would anybody come to MS unless they had to?

Mississippi has a law stating that no one can gamble. So, to get around that, some crafty lawyer figured out about 15 years ago that one could build a casino and park it out in the water and not technically be IN Mississippi. So, over the years a string of casinos were built along the coast. That stretch of highway turned into a deep south Reno, and lots of people moved down there to take advantage of it. Some of the Casinos were enormous and had giant hotels and resorts nearby like the ones in Las Vegas. Others, like the one in my photos, were only a few stories tall.

All of them were destroyed. This makes things tricky as far as rebuilding is concerned. Perhaps the law will change now that thousands of people are without a job, and the entire economy of the MS Gulf Coast has been erased.

On the plus side, a lot of Bible thumpers believe that this was God's way of telling people that gambling is wrong. Go figure.

Pretty amazing that huge building could be moved a mile and deposited upright and mostly intact.
