Or for High school drop out like me. But I got a low interest home loan and 39k for college waiting for me when I need it. Think I will take an online course for 7 bucks a credit and rake in the 800 a month tuition money. Can you do underwater basket weaving on the internet? Beside, I learned how to drink heavily, fuk meeps in the middle east, smuggle Cubanos on the boat, learn about e-mail on the boat, and as we passed through the Suez Canal throw "D" size batteries at the people mooning us. This is an issue that tears me up inside. I have realatives out in Iraq. I also know (being in LA) lots of poor Hispanics who joined up for the college tuition etc etc just like some above. I think this cirmeepvents the real problem.

The point is, Wealthy White Americans always seem to have a way out of going to war. Even the civil war, you got $250 for the Union you can get out of service otherwise you are a conscript, draft riots anyone. Vietnam...Bush the National Guardsman..need I say more. In this war there is no draft. Perhapse a backdoor draft or whatever you want to call it. So thats the real hard point to swallow. Everyone who signed up did just that. Signed up. Of course dangling money and "benefits" in front of people who's total houshold income for a family of 7-10 is like 20k a year is a low blow. What they don't tell you is 39k is not enough for a good education. It can get you an education, but not a really good one that gets you into the rich white people club. Most Universities are getting closer to that number just for one year!!! USC to name one (fight on trojans) yes I went there.

In the service you can live a good live. Serve your country and come home safe. Or die in a war that is highly contested, or be horribly injured!! An the VA is really really bad. If you have something wrong with you and you have another option DO NOT Go To THE VA. I've seen to many relatives die painful deaths because of VA screw ups. If you don't believe me google it. But you can get buried in a national cemetary with a 21 gun salute and all the trimmings like my late Grandfather (Korean War Vet/Truck Driver).

Conclusion: No one really twisted peoples arms to join, but they did coerce them. That creates a grey area. Much like when Dumbskull coerces young nubile females to have their first meep experiance in a dumpster behind the McD's. It seems wrong but is it really?

The 39k for college thing doesn't apply to all. Since I test so high and got into a critical military intelligence slot I've got 100% tuition up to my masters degree. then i can get a low interest college loan to get anything above that and they repay it once i graduate. pretty good deal

I kinda missed the whole money for school thing. I was in the canoe club just after the end of the first really good GI Bill. The early versions in the late 1970's and early 80's sucked meep and were not worth it. It would not make any difference now, I have pilled up more debt for school than any of the current GI bills would cover.
