Help Please With New Job

So I've given up trying to find a decent job and am ready to join a big company at some meepy position to pay my bills. I have another job, which I only work two days a week at, as a shift manager of a university dining hall.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with any of these big companies (think Blockbuster, Fedex, Sam's Club, etc) and if anyone can give me tips on what company may or may not be a decent one to work for. I used to work for Best Buy and pretty muched hated it - their management was horrible, scheduling was horrible, incentives were horrendous. I dropped about 3grand on discounted meep and got outta there.

Anyways, I'm really getting desperate here and would love any help anyone could give me.

I live in Ann Arbor by the way if you're wondering about regional chains.

If you're going to get a "meepty job," movie houses (including Blockbuster or Hollywood Video), tend to be a cool place to work. Much better than being a clerk at Meijer's.

I'm still in school so I'm looking for another parttime job to help make ends meet. Although I have the shift manager position right now, and I'd like to do a similar position elsewhere, at this point I'm willing to take anything that doesn't sux0r too horribly.

And thanks straydog for the vote of confidence. I'm sure I woulda been great at your all-meep brothel.

hahaha!!! you are not welcome at my brothel of love anyway!

seriously, my best friend worked at a movie theatre for years, and loved it. Free movies, pretty easy going work. I would suggest looking for openings for (insert actual title here) those people that sit in the booths and run the movies.

i know down here they made like 8-9 an hour (5-6 years ago)

projectionist? hmm sounds interesting. i always wonder with jobs like that or for instance loss prevention at retailers, whether it takes any sort of qualifications.

Well, it might suit your meepual pragmatism to meep yourself out.

Alternatively, Become a pharmaceutical guinea pig at phizer. Grow and vend weed. Sell snow on ebay. Find out what minority or oppressed group you belong to and sue somebody.

Honestly, why work for 6 measly bucks an hour?

i already sell weed. but i live in ann arbor and i wholeheartedly believe there may be more dealers than buyers lol. nah its just something i only get into when i'm desperate for the ca$hmoney,

and to answer your question, ill work for some faceless corp. for nothing because otherwise i'll have to answer to the credit card companies.

if you're talking loss prevention for a major retailer than yeah you're talking about CORPORATE, which means you probaby would need a little more experience than part time shift leader at the college mess hall.

I'd go for something that can offer you flexible hours (still in college?), maybe do tech support or sell credit cards or something?

i could pay you to stalk my ex girlfriend in Traverse City...

The hours don't neccessarily have to be flexible so much as I say "here's my schedule, it's the same every week. now you guys schedule me around that."

best buy had no problem with it.

Go to your state employment office. I'm thinking sweet bennies as a priority, not flexible work hours. Working for the state is glorious job security and the mobility is unparalleled. From mailman to park ranger to life guard? Life Guard for community park in Ann Arbor, MI makes $11.75/hr? Wow.

Start here.

Hockey referree makes $16/hr.
Day camp counsellor $9.75/hr Ski Instructor $11.75/hr Zamboni driver $12.75/hr

I DON"T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a nice, fat new Mac on it's way this week with Panther OS, FireFox, and all teh bells and whistles. Once I can get on IRC, I won't have amuse myself by posting pointless, irrelevant pics anymore.

I worked for FedEx for 7 years until i left them 2 months ago. They are a good company IF you get a salaried position, its "ok" the pay is decent..... DO NOT take any hourly position, they will run you into the ground. If 60 hours a week meaning lot of times split shifts is your idea of a good time, then sign right up. I just read you initial question so i dont even know what type of back ground you have. but if your looking for management or something other than a courier/handler/csa position, then it would be a good choice. The benifits were great there and you get a TON of discounts at various businesses.

ok, now i read further. If part time is what your looking for then FedEx would ba a pretty cool place to go. You can work part time on either the AMs or PMs and get full benifits and 401k, vacation time etc etc etc. They give their part timers the same perks and benifits as a full timer.

FL, is FedEx a union shop? I worked briefly over a holiday season in college for UPS. Fun job, fun group of people, great benefits if I had stayed on after the season. Bad thing was it was union and I'd say the first two paychecks went towards union dues/fees even though I was temp to part-time.

I've actually been looking at FedEx. Our local center is hiring package handlers for part time. Other than whatever benefits they usually have, they pay an extra 50c an hour if you're in school as tuition assistance. I know it's a manual labor job so am I gonna go out of my mind?

my buddy was a package handler for UPS, and he quit after 3 days. He couldn't stand teh constant onslaught of packages. He said that if you got behind, boxes would just start piling at your feet, and if you stopped, like 5 other people would have to stop also. Anyway, HE didn't like it, but my brother in law has worked there for like 5 years (still waiting on that courier position) and he seems to like it.

ive had one 'manual labor' job at a meeping greenhouse and i quit after a day. it was just horrendous work for like 5 bucks an hour and there was NOBODY around i was always alone.

plus i had built like 3 garden arch things and totally fux0red them up and didnt want to deal with it

I take it that you're not legally able to do bar work? (sux0r 21yr old age limit is only 18 in c00l countries) but if you are then why not learn to pull a beer?

Just try to get a just at an old person bar - they won't ask for tricky drinks and usually pretty well behaved.

Uh, you could also prostitute yourself to rich business men!

Or you could start a c00l website and make people pay to access the content :( even grouphug.us is asking for money to access extra content.

Or you could go on one of those reality tv shows.

you can bartend at 18 here.

I get about a hundred emails a day promising that I can make as much as $3k a week working from home returning phonecalls. Want I should start forwarding them along?

Don't knock manual labor, it's satisfying to look back on a completed job and see a tangible difference. It is good for the soul to sweat things out and get dirty. The pleasure of something you built or branches you've cleared or flowerbeds you've planted is a simple one but indispensable.

Of course I never made as much money as I did bartending. Going to school after working till 3am the night before is tough but the rewards are measured in girls. Ooodles and oooodles of girls. Bartenders are chick magnets.

Work on your upper body if you want good tips.
