Moving
We have just put our house on the market. This flat-roofed Contemporary design house cost us $91,000 three and a half years ago and the agent tells us that we should be able to get $150,000 or more for it as a developement property. The block is big enough at just over one eighth of an acre, to get two "villa" style or two storey townhouses on or even a really good single home with a bit of backyard. Of course, it could also be renovated if someone wanted to put the time, effort, and most especially money into doing it
.
The good news is that we have also made an offer on another home no more than half a mile away but a world away in style and condition. It has four bedrooms instead of three, an ensuite bathroom, a family room , a big outdoor entertaining area, and a fully lined and powered workshop plus a couple of smaller sheds. The only real problem (if we get this place) is going to be getting the bench , lathe, and other machinery into the workshop. the drive is steep ( downhill ) and the path from the carport to the workshop isn't exactly wide or smooth. But, enough muscle and a few wheels can put anything anywhere. The Egyptians built the pyramids with just muscle and a few rollers after all.
The most important thing is that the Boss is happy that this place is on the market and will be happier when we get a new place.

meep and to think that the land in the area's I work just topped the $1millon mark for a view of the beach.
Maybe if you spent that much on a house you'd be married to Hilary Duff!

Wow, prices must be very cheap in Australia. You wouldn't want a $90,000 house here (in Madison anyway). I paid $145,000 for my house a year and a half ago, I'd get at least $180 for it now. Good luck with everything, I hope all the paperwork and mortgage red tape isn't as bad for you as it was for me

I wouldn't want a $90,000 house here anymore either! This is ready for a bulldozer and is now worth $150,000 plus!
The mortgage and fees etc are going to set us back about $12,000, but it is more than worth it to get out of here before it falls on the kids.

On going back over this a couple of points come to mind.
Ghost, I am talking Aussie dollars here not US so my $90,000house was bought at a time when AU$1 = US$ 0.65 or so; we are now about US$0.75 to the AU$1.00.
We actually missed out on the house we first went for, but have signed on the dotted line for a mirror image of it just around the corner( in a back street, not on the main drag ) . It is costing a bit more( AU$ 245,000 instead of AU$ 220,000 ) but that is worth it to get off the main road. Mind you, signing a contract for a quarter of a million of anyones dollars is a somewhat scary thing to do on a Saturday morning. Costs and mortgage fees etc. will take the total to about AU$260,000 ( roughly US$195,000).

OMG, I want to puke...I gagged at paying $416.00 (US and no, it's not junk) for my new car. Anyways, good luck with the new homestead!
