serious: tell them you can do the work of two people and tell them you won't work for less then $7 an hour(worked for me in the past)

unserious: work is for meeps, smoke weed, surf the net, guzzle beer, and let others support you(worked for me in the past)

Keep your options open, and apply for cool jobs you want(in high school, pizza delivery is good , much tip$$$). always give two weeks notice when quitting for good refs(i didn't always do this). employers like someone who is working, but looking for a better job.

I think about 75% of jobs are obtained through people you know.

Jobs are few and far between; even min wage jobs are hard to find up here in Maine.

Why not join the army? Being shot at by Arabs is better than any job where you make $5.50 an hour. Or any other job that involves lowering your morals (something you shouldn't have a hard time doin) like stripping, kids birthday clown or working in a meep bar.

If you are worried about the pay rate , start the bidding at a high figure ( $6.00 / hour or more ) and negotiate down. the very worst that can happen is the employer will laugh and then offer a much lower rate. It all comes down to your negotiating skills. Do not be afraid to say "not enough money" and walk away. The next job might be better. Of course , comparing this with what happens here, the money sucks. A kid working at the Golden Arches here gets at least US$7.50 / hour at 15 and it goes up as they get older,and they are on the bottom of the ladder.

The last time I worked for $5.15 an hour was in 1988, when the minimum wage was $3.35. Of course, my only expenses then were Black Flag or Dead Kennedy's LP's, gas, and beer.

Learn how to doctor a resume. I just twisted my record to make it look like I was suited for office assignments and sudddenly I'm temping for 11 bucks an hour. Not so shoddy.
