Hey Swarm,
I have an American Federal Government final coming up next week.
The prof has told us what our essay will be about: using Easton's Systems Model (something like this), take the roll of an Interest Group, the President, or whoever and describe how you would help a public policy get passed.
The problem: I know the parts of the model, but I don't know how anything works. That's not to say I haven't tried; I just don't understand anything that goes on in the class.
If any of you guys know how an interest group helps policies get passed, that'd be great.
I know they do grassroots mobilization, but that's about the only term I know.

SIGS usually target specific and sympathetic representatives for submission of legislation. Conversely, they can also oppose legislation and even filibuster bills under vote by using their representatives. Then there are large campaign contributions and favors. Then there is ninja terrorism.

What are lobbyists?
Here's what I have figured out (I think) so far:
IGs can make ads against 'Y', and it happens to be an issue that Candidate X is against, and they could subliminally show that Candidate X is the right guy to vote for through some sort of media stuff.
They send out pamphlets and newsletters to get people to join, which in turn brings more donations, and then they can take that money and pump it into more pamphlets, ads, etc.

hit up the motherfucking wikipeeds, yo.
essentially lobbyists try to convince legislators to vote a certain way or introduce bills favorable to them/their clients. this can be done through private meetings, sponsoring studies, mobilizing the public, campaign contributions, whatever. sometimes, i'd imagine it's just as easy as a certain group saying 'this is what we think'.
i don't know how this really helps you though. sorry. :(

Gawd, Wikipedia's are total bull shit and should never be used for references.

obviously, you should never write a paper based on wikipedia, but it can help in finding other topics/aspects to research.
what you could try, though, is contributing to this journal rather than spouting cuntbabble about wikipedia (for whatever time this is now).

Basically all we have to do is write 2-4 pages in a bluebook, but I find it hard to BS polisci, and the prof has a pretty good eye for it, too. :(

Buy a .40 smith & wesson and a 9mm glock. Walk into class and turn in what you managed to get on paper with a smile

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
