So a few friends and I started playing chess again. I was doing reading on the en passant and, and I saw this on Wikipedia:
Moving into Check
A king may move into a square threatened by an enemy piece only when it is already in check. This can only happen when subsequent moves by other pieces eliminate all threats to that square by the end of the turn.
The king normally can not move into check--it is only when moving out of check that a king may move into check. Upon moving into check, the king may not move again for the rest of that turn. This prevents a cornered checked king from moving three or more spaces to escape into the open.
A player may expose a king to check in the course of a turn, as long as the king is not exposed to a check at the end of the turn. The king, however, may never move into a threatened square, except as noted above.
What does this say?
To me it sounds like it's saying you can move into check.

...it is only when moving out of check that a king may move into check.
That's called checkmate. End of game.

I think the idea is a king jumps like a knight when it moves diagonally, so it passes through two squares, ie up and left. I could be wrong, but I feel like I've read this somewhere.

^ Could be.
Or is it to do with moving two squares when 'castling', ie changing places with your rook, so to speak. The King could conceivably pass through check in this case.

This is a rather screwy splotch of text.
I halfway agree with Dragonstaff. I would agree three quarters of the way if it weren't for the explanation's stipulation that the king move into check only to be moving out of check. (You can't castle to get out of check.)
I'm thinking that this is a rotten wiki. I mean, come on, you can't move more than one piece during a turn on any move but a castle, right? Or am I missing some piece of long forgotten lore?
This is sad. I needed to look up a chess board on Google Images to gain proper reference points. I need to air out my inner nerd.

FYI Wikipedia is never a good source for info/research on anything.

"Upon moving into check, the king may not move again for the rest of that turn. This prevents a cornered checked king from moving three or more spaces to escape into the open."
You know... Its been my limited chess experience that the King may only move one square in any direction on any given turn... Am I missing something here? They make a few references to making multiple moves in one turn??
i.e. the bit about, its ok if you move a piece putting your king in check, so long as he isn't in check at the end of your turn.
Is this some new form of multi-move chess these fuckin guys are talking about or do they mean, hey if you are holding onto your piece and haven't decided on a placement for it yet, but while figuring things out you happen to open your King up for attack, but technically haven't moved yet, then thats ok??
Jebus!

Yep. I vote for crap and/or hacked Wiki. The only time the King can move more than one space is during the Castle, and you cannot Castle into, out of, or even through<.b> check. In fact, many people play that once you have been in check at all, the Castle is lost forever in that game, regardless of check situation. This is why some people will almost always check early in the game, typically with the bishop. I do that also, but not for that reason... it's a simple trap, and I will always sacrifice a bishop for a knight.

Wow. Completely fuxored my closing tag there. Sorry.

I like that your chess strategy is 'always sacrifice a bishop for a knight'. Sounds like a dangerous new threat to the international establishment.

that wikipedia post has either been hacked or the author is confused and referencing some of the ancient games from Persia/India which led to chess.
within the modern version of chess, you cannot move a king into check ever and you cannot castle to move out of check and you cannot castle period if you have been put into check at all during the game.

Chess is fun when it ends this way!

whomever it was that challenged me:
It was fun destroying you... mostly because you started flaming me after only a few moves..
Also, who is sidechain and why woudl we be a good couple? Is he gay? is that the joke?
Seriously though, you are way too defensive in your playing. You went into a castle after like 4 moves. There is no reason for this. Castling can be a great strategy but only if the board offers it as a promising solution once the game gets flowing. There is no advantage to having your king over there at the beginning of the game. It can actually be an eaier sutuation to mate someone.
in summary, al_capwn, you are a faggot

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
