I got fired today.
Fired because some ignorant OR nurse didn't like the answer I gave her. It wasn't a wrong answer, and I wasn't rude.
I was simply the guy that she chose to throw under the bus to get the pissed off doctor of her back.
NEWSFLASH!!! In Tech Support, people are going to fucking complain. It's a fact of life.
Apparently the 2200+ other calls I have taken over the past three years don't amount for shit.
I was looking for a career change anyway, so I guess that it is for the best. I don't know what I'm going to do, but it damn sure will not be tech support. I am looking into contract jobs.
Anyone here ever work contract tech jobs? How was your experience?
On an up note, my previous employer neglected to change the after hours support line from ringing through to my cell phone. And wouldn't you know it, a call came in. From an asshole I have been tolerating for the last three years.
He was not happy when I told him go piss up a rope, then hung up on him. Oh well, what are they going to do? Fire me twice? Fuck em.
I am seriously considering giving a call to the BSA. I think they might be interested in the significant amount of unlicensed/pirated software that is currently in use by my previous employer.
Bottom line: I am dusting off my resume and polishing up my shoes. On Monday, I begin to search for new employment.
Any good luck you nignogs could throw my way will be appreciated.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know the scandalous details of what it was that went down, if you want to share.
Anyway, I am a recent college grad with a BA. So I'll say this: I can't get fired from a job, because I can't get one in the first place. I guess that's supposed to make you feel better, but it sounds like you have a pretty good perspective on this whole thing.
Good luck!

Good luck dude. I have some experience in the job-losing department, so I empathize. File for unemployment compensation post haste--just in case that next job isn't waiting around the corner. Hopefully it will be.

I did contract work for 5 years at several different places before I ended up where I am now.............. I hated it. I left the contractor thing to be an FTE. But then again I may not be comparing apples to apples as Im government employee and getting let go here takes damn near an act of congress
|
wrecker 07-28-2006, 11:17 pm
Thank you all, seriously.
I have filed for unemployment. I don't intend to burn any bridges unless they are cunts about the unemployment.
Then the BSA will get their tip off.

freakmachine 07-29-2006, 12:18 am
I have friends who have done well with contract tech jobs, the good part is that you can leave them after a while if you hate them. And sometimes they may offer you permanant positions if you work out.
I have kind of a govt job, they are nice.
Don't use the BSA bomb if you don't have to, it may come back to haunt you.
Good luck y0

You should have some friends call and ask for references at your old employment. They can only give dates of employment and if you are eligible to be rehired. If they are fucking you over contact the HR department with your evidence and threaten legal action. You will at least get a neutral response then, maybe even positive. If you have some friends at the old work try to get a letter of recommendation. And please do not bad mouth your old employer at your next interview. Be positive always in the interview and be a little egotisical, you gotta sell yourself. Last advice, nobody has to know you were fired, just ask them not to contact your current employer. Unless 2 HR people from different companies know each other the odds of any one finding out are low.

Trickbear: That is a good idea about having someone call my old employer. I think I'll do that, just be sure.
As far as bad mouthing my ex-employer, I am not doing that. And I am asking that no one contact my previous employer. Yesterday's interview went so-so. I have another today though.

Well.
Almost a month to the day, and I accepted an offer for a better job, with better benefits, making a ton more money. YAY ME.
Let me back up a little bit. When I last left this journal, I thought I had been fired. However, it turns out that technically I was laid off. This meant that I was allowed to draw unemployment. Win number 1.
Now just because I could be lazy, didn't mean that I would be lazy. Once the whole unemployment ordeal sorted itself out, we were able to relax a little bit and I could focus on finding the right job, not just A job.
Luckily for me the job market is considerably better now than it was three years ago, and I began receiving calls and setting up interviews almost immediately. The first few interviews were crap, and I went through the obligatory headhunter meetings. Things went like this for the first week and a half.
Then, nothing.
No new job postings, no phone calls, zilch.
Then one night, I received a call from a company I had sent my resume to in the first week. The 'few quick questions' turned into a 45 minute phone interview that resulted in a scheduled face to face interview. This position was with a government contractor working for the Dept of Transportation. The job had sweet benefits but it was technical support and it was in Cambridge (Massachusetts) which is about an hour and half train ride from home.
Anyway, I go to the interview and everything goes great. I even meet with the division head who tells me point blank that I wouldn't have met with him if I were not a solid candidate.
After the interview, I was feeling pretty good and when I got back home, I received another call from another company I had applied for the first week. This was for a Sys Admin position, which is what I wanted in the first place. SO I go down to this interview and it goes great as well.
Now I have two companies that are essentially in a race to hire me. The first company called me yesterday and madea tenative offer of 4K more than I was asking. I was also told that I should receive my electronic application that would initiate my background check (governmetn job and all).
I received the application earlier today. Then I start thinking about the hour and a half commute. Yeah the benefits are great, but am I really going to want to be riding the train for that long, every single day???
I didn't know how much Company two was offering, but the position was the exact job I wanted and it is closer to home, plus the hours are better.
Honestly, I have never been in this position before in my life. Two great jobs, each with individual traits making each one super attractive. I had no idea what to do and it got to the point where I was physically feeling the pressure and it felt hard to breath.
Finally, in an effort to do something, I called up company two, to see where I stood in their process, since I knew they had already talked to my references. I was told that in fact, they had just finished putting together their offer letter for me. They were offering me 3500 more than I was asking, and as soon as I heard that, the decision was easy. I gave a verbal acceptance of their offer and it was like a weight was lifted off me.
I have received the official letter and will fax it back tomorrow. I not only survived losing my job, I have ended up with a better one going forward.
Thanks for all the advice, and support. I appreciate it.

Fuckin-A, man. It is great when shit that happens turns out to have been good luck.

fl_projekt 08-31-2006, 10:35 am
Like Mundhra said, sometimes getting let go from a position is the kick in the ass you need to actually get something better. People tend to make an effort not to leave their comfort zone as long as things are going ok (even though theres the chance things could be MUCH better) Good luck administrating

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
