I just dowloaded a game and it's got three folders of files in rar & PAR format. What the hell do I do with them now?

Dunno about par, but for RAR, get WinRAR. It's a very ugly and very clunky but very free and functional piece of software that will, if you let it, take over .zip and insert all sorts of right-click options that will slow down your brain nicely. I dunno why people still use RAR. It's not that much better than ZIP compression.

PAR is kind of like a checksum file, it contains some redundant data. You can use them to rebuild or repair a defective rar file. If your RAR files are OK you can trash them. More info here: http://www.weethet.nl/english/internet_usingfsraid.asp
