I went to Microsoft's release shindig yesterday in downtown Fan Francisco. They had sessions all day promoting their newest developer software. They gave away an OS and the new software to attendees, and then served free beer and wine from 6:00 on, with Cheap Trick and AC/Dshe on the stage. Not bad for a bunch of nerds.

It was an amusing marketing approach. They did a rock-n-roll theme. The software they gave away was packaged in an LP "record sleeve", and the t-shirts were done up like concert T's with tour dates on the back, like it was a CD release party. Marketing people are a strange breed.
