This blew my fuking mind.
One thing I like about this show (it's one of the things that most ppl dislike) is how the story progresses like a slow burn, giving you tidbits that you miss and only catch during the second viewing.

Namaste is a composite of the two Sanskrit words, nama, and te. Te means you, and nama has the following connotations:
To bend
To bow
To sink
To incline
To stoop

I gave up on figuring it all out a long time ago, and just watch the show for the shallow plots, not the deep mother fucking see plots.

I suspect this whole countdown clock is just a psychological experiment: "If you take two men and confine them to close quarters in a bomb-shelter environment and give them a meaningless, arbitrary, routine task, how long will they respect protocol before giving up?" Apparently, a long time.
Desmond says Kelvin said they were saving the world.
The video mentions "an incident" but doesn't tell what.
Desmond finds proof of the gravity of the task in the local electromagnetic field.
What sort of weapon could give off a big electromagnetic field? Not a nuke.
I can't think of anything.
|
casmhar 10-09-2005, 10:41 am
Nukes can give off tons of emp, but in a burst. The island has a strange electromagnetic characteristic, which leads me to believe it is always strange..
It wouldn't surprise me if the entire Island was fabricated and everything around it.
The countdown clock is interesting. Lets see who has the balls to let it go off.
|
casmhar 10-09-2005, 11:21 am
Nice.
I was looking for an individual, looks like you found the paradigm for the meaning behind the application of the experiments.

casmhar 10-09-2005, 12:28 pm
Found this factoid:
"Gagarin smile still shines on planet Earth
It was 108 minutes on April 12, 1961 that made the difference to Yuri Gagarin and the world -- the time it took for the first man in space to complete his historic dash around the globe and blaze a trail to the stars."
|
vasudeva 10-09-2005, 12:33 pm
I found it in the blog you linked. There's some good stuff in the comments if you dig.
Some of the comments are off the mark, though, like the one where the guy is trying to assign meaning to each of "the" numbers, completely unaware that a Google search for Lost eventually reveals reams and reams of instances of each of the numbers popping up everywhere in the series.
I spent a Sunday a few weekends ago digging up Lost stuff. If I had known you'd make a journal entry on it, I would have saved the URLs.
Sadly, there seems to be no good central source for intelligent analysis, but I find one or two decent ones. I'll see if I can find them in my browser history.
|
casmhar 10-09-2005, 12:38 pm
Thanks Vas.
I am still thinking the numerical series are location coordinates. I am looking for corresponding units of measure.
The last number in the series, 32 for the counter and 42 on the door may represent two different locations on the island. One for whatever lures people there, the other for the location of the Dome. I can't resist a good riddle.

Sadly, I'm inclined to agree (I think) with IBPPhil here. The guys making Lost have done a great job at weaving together clues in such a fashion as to create the appearance of a Grand Meaning. But.
If you look over the season that's passed, and the few episodes of season 2, and think about how slowly any real underlying facts are eked out -- almost none, in fact -- there seems to be almost no scheduled time for them to drop on us any revelation worthy of the skullduggery we're undergoing. They'd have to have several episodes back-to-back jam-packed with "here's what's really going on," in a series where episode 3 ends chronologically at the same point as episode 2 with no new information except a couple who-cares character flashbacks and a little fill-in on what the hot bitch was doing in the food closet all that time.
So I think the bulk of these clues are red herrings.
But don't stop believing on my pessimistic account. I hope I'm wrong.

In my opinion Mr Echo's Bible rant was just to work in the cheap "rebuild the temple" metaphor. But just for a second I thought he was going to pull out some Ethiopian biblical artifact finally proving Jesus was a left handed, bi-polar, on the island or some sort of bullshit. The filmstrip was a letdown, but how about that IM conversation at the end though!
>: Hello?
Dad?
>: Walt?
Yes Dad
>: Walt!? Son are you ok?
I’m Fine
>: Where are you?
I’m in the net café on the other side of the island with the others. It’s pretty awesome here. I’ve been learning to talk backwards and even play Magic the Gathering. tantrum 12-01-2005, 03:15 pm
Anyone notice how it seems Locke has taken a doe-eyed fag pill the last couple episodes.
I didn't watch much of the first season because I too feared that this series would go the way of X-files. Promising intrigue and cool mystery and delivering a total convoluted mess. The cliffhanger last season and this season have been much better--answering some questions instead of raising one on top of another. That is, until now.
I don't think the writer know exactly where they are going with the story, if at all. It better be/get good.
|
acheron 12-05-2005, 06:07 pm
The whole thing definitely has the potential to become shitty real fast. Hopefully they won't do that.
|
vasudeva 12-05-2005, 06:24 pm
Tantrum: I don't think the writer know exactly where they are going with the story, if at all. It better be/get good.
You know, I get the exact same impression.
What questions do you consider as having been answered? I honestly don't think I can think of one.
|
nocal 12-05-2005, 06:50 pm
Quickly starting to remind me of "The Prisoner"... smart, mysterious, a hit (in the UK). The final episode, you expected to get a nice little explanation. Instead, you get insane symbolism, no definitive answers, and a whole lot to think about. Obviously, people fucking hated it.
Like the Seinfeld finale, only good.
|
tantrum 12-05-2005, 07:02 pm
--answering some questions
Yeah, I should clarify that statement. I mean they answered some of the smaller questioned they raised periodically. Foremost for me, "What is in the hatch." But I get the feeling that the whole hatch thing was contrieved. I can really envision that each week, the writers and creaters of the series sit around a big round table and ask each other, "What mysterious plot device can we think of today to keep people watching." and "What tiny bit of subjective information can we throw out there to keep people intrigued." I also get the feeling they purposely hold back (information)so they don't paint themselves in a corner they can't get out of later. Or even more likely, they don't have the information to hold back because it hasn't been approved or even thought of by the Lost writing collective. So we end up with a mish mash of tantalizing yet subjective "clues" about what the series is all about.
I hope I'm wrong, that's what keeps me watching.
Also, I'm still leaving room for the possibility that they don't know where they are going with the series but will come up with some awesome shit.
|
vasudeva 12-06-2005, 08:42 am
Tantrum: I hope I'm wrong, that's what keeps me watching.
Ditto. In fact, this whole thread is one big ongoing vasudeva testament to that sentiment.
|
acheron 12-06-2005, 08:59 am
On the commentary they actually say, in effect, that they don't know where the whole thing is going. They have some loose ideas I think, and some story already written, but no over-arching plan.
|
LORDKAHUNA 12-06-2005, 10:47 am
I think that commentary itself is a red herring, I believe that they will reveal awesomeness and will change TV forever.

The minute "Rodriguez" came on the screen, during Jack's flashback of the flight delay scene, I felt like I had put my hand in the popcorn bag and come up with a handful of warm rat livers. Something about her bugs me -- not even the character, who is a asshead, but the actor herself. She belongs in a '80s surf movie or something.
In short, I want her dead.
That is all.
|
tantrum 12-07-2005, 08:57 pm
I have the same issues with her, something about that lazy eyed glare. I mentioned this to a friend and she said this, "That makes alot of sense to me, you have issues with powerful women" HAHA WFT. Strangly, one of the only times I've actually thought she was semi-attractive was her mug shot. It's the only mug shot I've ever seen that defiantly screams "I'M READY FOR MY FACIAL, MOTHERFUKER." HAHA WFT.

My theory is that the cloud is the monster equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters, looking to put the shame to jive turkeys. Mr. Eko is way too big and black to be a jive turkey. Mr. Eko is bigger and blacker than the black cloud even. Locke may not be black, but he's like the Island equivalent of Larry Bird. Gotta respect his game.
The pilot was for sure a jive turkey.

Oh snap.....thanks for the bump Vas I was looking for this but the seach bar doesn't cover journals.
So I was wondering....does anyone even care anymore? Has LOST totally jumped the shark and entered the world of crappy soap-opera after the whole Jin isn't the baby's daddy drama with Sun last week.
Maybe its just me but the show was a whole lot cooler when there was more 'Island' drama and less people drama. Give me less Loke & Jack gradually squeezing eachothers balls harder and harder and give me More polar bears and freight train smoke. I'm holding out a little hope with the hatch "taking on a life of its own" according to the teaser.
anyone still watching?
|
vasudeva 03-29-2006, 03:02 pm
I am, though I'm usually a couple weekends behind since we started the 24 marathon.
The last couple episodes I saw had some real meat. Charlie and Sawyer. Claire's trek to babyland, where she found the theater components, was fairly mindblowing. That one was notable because the flashbacks weren't mostly fluffy backfill on character development but concurrent relevant infoz on wtf as regards the island.
Also, fuk Locke. Locke has become a real dickbag. I hate Locke.
|
dinozoa 03-29-2006, 03:22 pm
I still watch. I think the saving grace for me is no matter how bad the drama gets, there is still Sawyer and Katey Sagal (HOQQT) to look forward to. Also, the show tonight is supposed to be all about the hatch going crazy, so maybe that should be good.

I had a pretty wild lost_related experience...
I had to fly to L.A. Monday for E3 and decided to pay a little extra to upgrade my ticket to business class so I could avoid those horrible coach seats and smelly commoners’ with screaming babies. ;)
Anyway, the guy next to me was cool and we started chatting when the first round of beers came through. He got a miller light and I opted for Heineken. Then the fun began. Pretty wild as I am a sound dude in post production.. which interested him as HE IS THE MAIN BOOM OPERATOR FOR LOST!
It was really cool hearing about the show and exactly what he does. He is responsible for capturing all of the dialogue with the boom and lavalier mics and apparently is a total badass.
Anyway, throughout the flight, I learnt a bit about the cast and shit. Pretty funny.
I didn't want to pry too much and sound like a total homo, but I had to pry a little.. and he was blabbering a bit. The beer helped..
So:
Saeed is a total asshole, drunk and junkie. He knocked up a girl and UH and is such an asshole that there is a restraining order against him to see his own kid.
Boon from the first season dated one of the producers daughters, then dumped her shortly after. He was dead 2 episodes later.
The two chickes that just died had DUI's in Honolulu and are generally totally out of control. They got DUI's on the same night and Michelle Rodriguez just got sentenced to 5 days in jail there. So the payback for them was DEATH as well. The producers don’t fuck around!
Michelle Rodriguez is a huge lesbian and her friends are complete freaks. They have contests on who can make the most disgusting porno films. heh. He sadi that some of them involve animals...
Claire is a complete attention whore and the minute she gets on the set she starts whining about EVERYTHING.
Locke: Super cool guy.
Hurley: Way cool.. loves old school rock like AC-DC. The boom guy jammed out with him and some other guys a few times with plenty of beers and joints. He's sort of insecure about his weight which is a strange parallel to the show.
Charlie: Totally cool guy.
Bernard: Awesome actor, great guy.
Jack: nice but kind of full of himself.
All actors but the super star duo: make 80K per show.
First season: 40K per show...and once they got the raise, they all got kind of snobby.
Superstars: Estimated at 250K per show but he wasn't sure.
The only other thing that I can remember (I had 3 beers rather quickly) was something he said about an upcoming show: Apparently Echo tries to blow up a hatch somewhere.. and fails I think. He was talking about how good a job the art department did during that scene.
Anyway, there you go.. some Lost silliness. The dude (Dennis) is cool. We are going to hang out when he gets back for the next season, in August. :)

We are trying to put together some sort fo drinking game for the season ender and need some more ideas.
so far we have:
If anyone Yells "Michael" = Drink
If Michael Yells "Walt" = Drink
Any use of the word "Boat" = Drink (this is a gimme)
Any Use of a Nickname ie Freckles, Tubby etc = Drink
If the head of the Others appears without his beard = Finish Bottle
Kate appears in underwear = Drink & Masturbate
|
freakbass 05-23-2006, 03:47 pm
cool. here are some more ideas:
If you scratch your head in confusion after episode: take 23 sips
whenever a bullet enters a body: finish beer
Every time Michael says the word 'Son': Drink one whole beer
If Echo tries to blow up a new hatch: Stand on head and shoot beer
Whenever they show a new flashback scene: Leave room
Whenever someone enters the water: drink
Whenever a previous plot line is abandoned: drink WAIT! YOU WOULD DIE FROM ALCOHOL POISONING

CNN has reported 3 more Seasons of LOST before wrapping it up.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/07/television.lost.reut/index.html
I'm still watching but I really wish they would tie it up next season so Evangeline Lilly can pose for Playboy & I can move on with my life

are they going to start the season in Feb, despite the writers strike? Is this season already in the can anyway?

| Sexual Asspussy | This is awesome.
This is the first pornsite I've found in years that I'd actually advertise to swarmers. When you first load it up, it looks just like every crappy scam site out there, except that it's real. It's huge, it's updated constantly, there's no spam, no popups, and no bullshit -- and it's completely free. When you sign up through that link above and respond to the confirmation email, I make a bit of loose change.
See what other swarmers have to say about it. People love this place, so I feel fine about sending you there and am confident you will enjoy boners.
