Two week vacation, entertaining the parents -> first day of three at Yosemite nat'l park. It's nice to be away from the city for a little while. We rented a cabin near Hetch Hetchy out in the middle of nowhere. It is so quiet - the wind in the trees and various forest critters, and the stars are so bright - no traffic or airplanes - just a vast expanse of wilderness.
Pretty weird that they have internet access at the lodge here (satellite). And a good restaurant too - dinner was fantastic: elk tenderloin, best meal in years! Tomorrow's agenda includes Mariposa Grove where the giant seqouias are, then Yosemite Valley, and finally a birds-eye view of the valley from Glacier Point.
If you are ever vacationing in northern California, this place that is worth the trip.

2nd night: toured the valley and the giant redwoods in Mariposa Grove. The weather was polite enough to wait until after we'd finished sight-seeing before the thunderheads moved in and it began to hail. The 30-mile ride back to the cabin was interesting - lightening, road crews cleaning debris from the road, and fog thick as pea soup.
I love a good thunderstorm!
Will post pix to the scrapbook when I get back :)

not so wild animals...did i mention we brought the bunny on the 7hour trip? She didnt leave the fireplace area in our room.

I am ever stung by the reminders that we sold our Mountain Cabin to live at the beach.....sigh
Until I remember the winters.
