Linkswarm's West Coast Treasure Hunt, Pirate Party and Bad-meep Barbecue.(Planning Stage)
All right kiddies, here's the plan:
I'm hard at work getting six chests(One big, five small), six maps, six keys and about 30-40 wooden swords made.
Also purchasing a meep-ton of meat and enough whiskey, rum and beer to f#ck up the Fifth Fleet.
These are all prizes and props for the party I'll be throwing on Beachgoat's turf the weekend before Halloween(Oct 27-28)
I'd like to see at least 30 or so people(up to a hundred or more) attending this year so I'm sparing no expense.
If I can get a fair number of people to play along, there will be kid-friendly games and some "JESUS-CHRIST-is-this-sh#t-even-LEGAL-in-this-state?!" type games for the older crowd(see below).
Remember this is the PLANNING STAGE, so comments and ideas are more than welcome.
The kids start first:
There will be six VERY well-drawn maps being handed out for the winners of:
1) A simple footrace around some obstacles on the beach.
2) The best pirate costume.
3) The scariest pirate tale told over a campfire(Written down by mum and dad is fine)
4)-6) same dice game as the adults, minus the rum.
Then:
Barbecue happens.
Later that night:
A friendly game of DICE.
(Here's where the rum comes in)
Rules:
1) Roll for playing order.
2) DRINK you meepS! (It's FREE after all...)
3) Roll the dice.
FIRST ROLL:
If the number is "7" or "11" you drink and lose your turn. (Sound familiar?)
Any other number, roll again.
SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT ROLLS:
If the number is "7" or "11" you DRINK and lose your turn.
If the number is anything else, DRINK and roll again.
If the number is the same as your first roll, CONGRATS meepGOT!
-You get a SWORD! Pro-Tip: If it hurts, try holding it by the OTHER end.
If you already have a sword, trade the other one for one of six KEYS.
Once you've got a key, GET THE F#CK OUT and let some other a##hole win once.
Game is played until all six keys are handed out, the cops break it up, or we're all
too f#cked up to remember what we were doing.
Next Morning:
Six groups of two will take the chests and hide them in the pre-selected areas.
Then the map holders will try to locate them. (Shouldn't be TOO hard, seeing as somebody's gotta stand by to make sure some random meepbag doesn't run off with it.)
Hopefully everybody finds their chest.
I'll assign a number to each in case somebody locates someone else's by mistake.
There's five small chests with 20$-ish prizes inside and one big REALLY NICE chest with a SERIOUS(@$300 retail) prize inside.
Then it's just a matter of trying out the keys.
the keyholder and kid who located the chest will have to sort out who wants the prize and who wants the chest it came in.
That's all I have so far.
I'm putting this out now so that hopefully some of you will be motivated to get off your meeps and come out.
Questions/Comments/Ideas for improvement?

GAME TO ADD:
Similar to cow chip bingo, divide up sections of the party area and raffle off each square. If someone barfs in your square, you win a priez!

You are more than welcome to come to the party in whatever alter egos you have.
I'm looking foreward to witnessing the spectacle of a dozen horrendously drunken, grown-meep men in costume staggering all over Morro Bay swinging swords, singing and alternately burying and looking for treasure.
I think it'd be more fun to do after dark, but finding landmarks would be a meep.
Do we wanna do a whole pig again?
If so, somebody needs to babysit it besides me.
(I wanna go have fun this time.)
We could just do some tri-tip, steaks and stuffed jalapenos.
Those are all easy and cook pretty fast.-Plus you guys are free to bring whatever food you'd like to sneak into the Buffalo if you want something different.
I'll have plenty of wood AND it can run on propane now.

I checked and there'll be nearly a full moon on that weekend.
If the cloud cover isn't too thick, there should be plenty of light for nightime shinanigans.

If I leave right now it's only 4.25 miles per day. But tomorrow it will be more.

If by "lube" you mean RUM, then I'll have at least a half-bottle for each grown adult.
I'm picking up two bottles every payday from now until then.
Good, gold-medal booze.
Here's the list I'm following;

Pyrat XO Reserve
Rhum Barbancourt 15yo

I don't know if it is available in the States, but you should try to get a bottle or two of Bundaberg Rum as well. It is a good dark rum, and Australias only home-grown spirit.

I looked around a bit and so far I haven't found a SINGLE ONE of the rums on my list.

I went ahead and picked up a few of the newer(and fairly well-rated rums that I COULD FIND)
After sampling, I like Kraken the best so far.

I have some seashells we can put in the Pirate's Chests if you so desire...let me know, and I'll pack them up with my grog. Just a couple per chest, but the kids'll like them. Most are from the East Coast.

Perfect for: Celebrating a lucrative raid.
Yarrr factor: The British Navy issued a rum ration to its sailors until July 31, 1970. This was the last batch, and just a few dozen bottles made it to the US. 'Nice and musty,- Cate says. 'And it smells of the sea.-

This is not a bluff. We spent the day scouting some serious "you gotta be a meeping buccaneer" pirate treasure spots today. Climbed cliffs, scaled hills, fell down rocks. You'll just love it in the dark. Watch the video, and see why.

Anyway, This is the Sand Spit:

This is the northern end of Montana De Oro.
Lots of good, firm rock:

Gentlemen;
We have five months left to prepare for this celebration.
For MY part I have all the alcohol(minus the beer), two of the six themed chests, nearly three dozen fine swords, the first of the six maps and a fully retrofitted rolling pit barbecue for smoking the everliving f#ck out of anything meaty-looking that blunders across our path.
YOUR job is merely to get here.
You might be thinking:"It's too far and a lot of hassle."
But think on this:
When will you ever, as an adult get around to doing something out of your routine?
-When did you last leave your "safe place" and happily do something silly?
Will you go to your grave without some memory of yourself being someone else for a couple of days?
There will be a few people roaming the beaches here, but how could you possibly be embarrassed with a hundred fellow pirates(and one wizard) at your side?
There will be great food, drink, music and of course games and prizes. Plus anything that my fellow revelers care to bring.
Besides, Do you really want to see the one freaking kid that showed up going home with an armful of swords, chests, etc?
All that food and booze going to waste?
Because that's my worst fear here.
Put aside some money now. You have FIVE MONTHS to scrape together the cash to get here.
It will be worth it.

Let's see...
I've got the oak chest, Zelda chest and Wells Fargo chest completed...
The monster chest just needs paint...
and I'm gonna figure out the titty chest if it kills me.
That leaves one last chest to design.
I'd really like to get some input on this last one.
Anybody got a design they'd like to see?
(It doesn't necessarily have to be pirate-themed.)
