Holiday Bluez or joy?

My advice to all of you is to drink heavily,when possible.
This year, everyone is elsewhere, be it in town, or not.
It is magnificently quiet....

My kids are 1.5, 3, & 11, I'm jolly as meep, man. Christmas was the one part of my childhood that didn't suck, but it rocks even more now that I have my own littles to share it with.

Watching the wonder and excitement on their still-innocent little faces as we go through all the holiday traditions makes me wish they'd never grow up. My 3 year old has been watching the Santa Tracker all day, and loses her little baby mind every time the "Santa delivering presents" animation comes on. Fiat currency can't buy that kind of awesome, chum.

After we're done with presents in the morning, we're hosting family Christmas dinner for the first time ever. The house will be filled with kids, close family, old-skool Christmas tunes, and enough grub to feed Hitler's 6th Army.

Having spent previous Christmases in places like a flooded, shelled out appliance warehouse under heavy fire in Panama City, Panama in 1989 and with a bunch of other homeless meeps under a viaduct in Las Vegas circa 94/95, this feels like a whole different life.

We all walk different paths, make different choices, and lead vastly different lives. We argue, we hate, we slander, we call each other names that would make our mothers weep. But we are all just human beings trying desperately to make everyone else think that we've got it all figured out. None of us have it all figured out. We're just guessing. Pretenders, we.

And for that, I love you. All of you. Human being to human being.

Good enough...'cept I'll miss the extra $150 or so this week, that I usually
make playing my blues and jazz standards on the weekends. House gigs don't pay a lot ,
but it's steady cash.
Had fun tonight, too, at my girlfriend's son's place, playing Wii, after a hefty Chinese
takeout meal there.
I also had fun meeting his wife's sister, and her two little girls.
It's a treat meeting such smart little kids.
It was a very pleasant surprise having had fun there.
So, no blues to play, but no holiday blues.

My first Christmas with my own family, new baby makes it a wonderful time. Looking forward to Christmas in a few years when he can know whats going on like what Clavis is talking about.
Definitely have the joy.

It's supposed to start snowing here in North Carolina any minute now. I know that for some of you that's nothing out of the ordinary, but having lived in a few states where snow is exceedingly rare, a 'White Christmas' definitely adds to my holiday spirit.

I wish you all a 2011 chock-full of reasons to party!

I heard y'all are getting like 6 inches. Does that close down the state like it does in Virginia (at least in the Newport News area)?

@Whittey Things slow down, definitely, but shut down completely, no. The roads 'round here were blessedly silent this morning, however.

..I do wonder what it's going to mean numbers-wise for the after-Christmas sales that are probably going on today. Which will win, Mother Nature or Capitalism?

Mom fosters baby kitty
11y/o son (only child) likes kitty.
Kitty returned to pound, not adopted
Son talks mom/dad into adopting kitty (first pet, apart from fish)
Kitty adopted. Litterbox and other accoutrements bought, wrapped, treed.
Christmas morning, unwrapping accoutrements, dad steps on and kitty.
Kitty dies, shortly thereafter.

Christmas meeping sucked.
