Your Handle

As I read through posts, once in a while I'll notice a user's handle and realize I have been reading it wrong all along - take Nocal for instance. For a while i just rendered it in my dumb head as n-o-c-a-l rather than what I'm assuming should be no-cal, as in North Calimeepgobeef. Other handles just seem random and/or retarded.

What does YOUR handle mean, and why did you choose it?

I used to be graphix69 until I changed it to dent (around 04-ish), which is short for braindent, which was from braindent.com back in the day.

How's about yous?

My original handle was/is shweetbox. Which means meepbox. Which means meep. Which is something you should never be afraid to tonguejack.

I've been considering asking Vas to change it back to its shweetest form.

I have no idea what you are talking about so the answer is no.

shweet just means sweet except sweet isn't as shweet to say as shweet, got it shweetness?

Mine came from a kennel name the ex and I tried to register when we were starting to breed Staffordshire Terriers.

No, I never played D&D.

I was smoking way too much weed and reading -- or trying to read -- retarded meep like the Bhagavad Gita. I liked the pictures of the little blue guy levitating. There was some overlap with Siddhartha, too -- vasudeva is the ferryman who saves Siddhartha from suicide.

I had no idea at the time that Indians were going to flood the computer space and that using the nick 'vasudeva' in tech channels was going to make people instantly assume for very good reason that I was an Indian and should be treated like a dirty dog.

i had a pretty dooshy episode here. It was entirely my doing, though unintentional. I wanted to start fresh. StartRecordingNow seemed like a good way to describe that.

I got my name from a SomethingAwful article (back in like 2004 when the articles were funny). The article was a movie review (I think) and one of the characters had a ridiculous name, so the reviewer made fun of it by coming up with alternates, one of which was "DeathNinjaMcmeep." I just flipped it around.

After a while figured out that the majority of you are only mostly pretending to be assholes and decided to change my meephurt stupid name to something else. Grape Ape was always my favorite cartoon and it's what everyone called me in school because I was big as a kid.

Now here's the thing, that was just over 7 years ago and that's a huge chunk of your life to live with an alternate name that you made up in a few seconds to get access to the thongs gallery.

edit: I should say that it's always bugged me that people might think it was French. It isn't.

I get excited every time I drive by DENT BUSTERS on the main drag here in town. I think it's cool that there's a company solely in business to try and bust me doing things within my day.

Handles do become a large part of you.

JohnLenin: My old nick was based on an irl nickname. The new one doesn't mean meep; I was just tired of the old name and retired it.

The Greaseman was a radio jockey that took over in NY after Stern was kicked from NBC. When I lived in Maryland in the 80s ,my dad (step) loved him. One of his saying was "ooh dats shweeet"

Going more to my handle is that Wolfe is always taken everywhere, so I just added the first letter of my first name to the end.

I used to play bass in a band and thought I was really serious about it. Bands goof off as much as they play, and one of my goof-off characters was Lownotes, a guy with wrap-around shades and a popped collar who walked around town playing an unplugged bass. I thought you picked it because Vasudeva is an avatar of Krishna, and Krishna is an avatar of Vishnu - making your avatar an avatar of an avatar. I thought that was pretty rad the first time I looked it up.

I guess a lot of meep was going on in my life. The things I grew up around, that were the core of my identity started disappearing from my life. I lost childhood friendships to time. My grandfather, who was the most influential on my personality growing up, passed away unexpectedly. Buildings that I had so many life memories in were tore down, or re-purposed. Just so many things that were the core or "Nexus" of me were suddenly fading away... thus VanishingNexus.

I used to play Worms on the original Playstation with one of my buddies almost every day -- in like 5th grade. You could input words to create custom levels. We had tried everything and every combination of our names. We typed in our names, initials, nicknames, homonyms, and combinations of thereof until we ran out of ideas. The pronunciation of my initials (DRJ) would be "Derj" which sounds lame; I switched around the R/J, pronounced it and got "Dejer" (Dee- Jur). I used this as my AOL 2.0 screenname (old school); I've used it for tags ever since.

tl;dr - My initials switched up and pronounced: LOL

Other tags:

BlinK: Used whenever I play 1st person shooters and I want to stay anonymous. AKA, "Blink" and you're dead... That and I liked Blink 182 jigganandesuka: "Jigga, What?" in Japanese Doc: My first two initials are "D.R." and I used to be Pre-Med. IRL nickname. Davios: Named after a fine dining restaurant in Philly. This is my name if I imagine myself as a romance novel meep god.
