Such wonderful & simple beauty. Bet it stinks to high heaven. Food must be meepin', though. I recognized that temple from my father-in-law's slides from his '66 tour.

i went there for a week of work and 3 weeks of getting-the-meep-out-of-the-US.

Yeah, it stinks, but you get used to it (mostly). The first shower I took since getting back it amazed me how much I could smell of the smog coming off of me. Food was polarizing for me - either really good or really pungent. I couldn't handle the fermented fish & meat sauces - they brought to mind the image of licking a dirty wet dog. the pho and the coffee, on the other hand, was always good.

What is this? Is it a pipe?

If so, I need to get me one of those.

Awesome shots, man. I'm glad you spent some time hitting a couple of the Bun Cha places.([url]http://www.badboyben.com/?p=2349[/url]) The fish sauce takes some getting used to, and some of the stands are absolute meep, but if you can find one of the good ones it's pure meeping awesome. I've got a kick-meep recipe from my vietnamese ex that I never get tired of. Edit: Also; Are those vending machines meeping scary or what?!

It's an opium pipe. picked it up from a chinese goods vendor for about $5, then proceeded to smoke opium out of it later that same day. Since it was used, I left it in VN with a friend - I picked up another one that's carved bone for about $15 and brought it home unused. I'll have to take a shot of it and post it for y'all.

I actually have a small collection of opium pipes i've amassed over the years. This was the first time I'd used one to smoke opium though!

i ate better in viet nam than in any of my other stops in asia.

i keep thinking im going to post some of my shots here but i never seem to get around to it.
