Caskets
I forgot to write about this earlier. If and when a loved one passes away don't pay the full bull$hit cost for a casket that the funeral home is asking for. Costco sells the same caskets for a fraction of the cost.
For example: The casket we purchased from Costco for Grandma was $900. The funeral home wanted $4,900 for the same casket. There is other places that will supply the same merchandise for equivalant low prices. I can only vouch for Costco.
Also, the funeral home has to accept the casket.
Enjoy your low price high quality casket!

Traditional funerals are an unnecessary expense sold to people by leveraging feelings of guilt.
It doesn't honor grandma to be warehoused in what amounts to a centralized garbage dump for corpses,
and if you want to try to empathize with someone after they're gone you would probably have better luck
doing it at the place they lived or loved than the place they got dumped in a hole.
Cremation is much more cost effective and can be much more meaningful to those left behind.
I have small portions of two of my best friends that I occasionally talk at and listen for when I need the advice of a friend.
I've got an old friend who sits on a bar at his bro's house in a rock polishing canister that got picked up second hand for
less than 5 bucks. Custom carved wooden lid. It's "cheers to Charlie" just about every time a round goes down.

^ I disagree, GELD (lol). Humans have buried their dead with ceremony since...well, as far back as anthropologists can tell. It has nothing to do with guilt, but everything to do with instinctual human conscience. We must 'respect' the dead, and treat them with reverence. This is not new to modern American culture, it has always been. Even burial rights that seem barbaric to us are founded in reverence i.e; sky burials , floating a corpse down the Ganges, mummification, etc.

Just because "we've always done it that way" doesn't mean that it's the only or best way.
I would not want my children to have to pay thousands of dollars to have my corpse
eviscerated and stuffed with plastic and styrofoam and painted up to look "lifelike"
and hold down the smell, then stuck in a several thousand dollar box and buried in a hole
among thousands of other holes with a thousand dollar nameplate to tell me apart from all
the other expensive holes. I think it's wasteful and I think that the practice owes it's evolution and continued existence
to the sales prowess of morticians and funeral directors.
It just makes more sense to me to be burned, boxed, and put where it can be meaningful to
anybody to whom it might have meaning.
