Camping New England

So I haven't signed on to Linkswarm in quite some time, most everyone probably do not remember me as I backed into trolling as quickly as I came into the harsh light of Linkswarm socialites. Buuut anyywayss, if any of you would kindly help a fellow swarmer I would be most gracious. So down to business...
Last summer I and my group of friends from high school went camping somewhere along the Kangamagus river in New Hampshire. Being our first camping experience we decided to just head on up in the middle of the week and hope to find an open campsite. Luckily we found one in a private campground and payed $20 a night. When we first arrived, there were no other campers to be seen so we had our pick of campsites and could smoke and drink as we pleased, partying late into the night without a worry. The next day however, right in the middle of a wonderful acid trip, a multitude of families started arriving and setting up camp. Much to our horror we found that all of the grumpy parents were accompanied by young ornery kids. Our quaint little campsite had gone mainstream, whoring itself out to anyone with an inkling to experience the outdoors. We still all had a good time, partying that night and hotboxing tents late into the night but naturally we were uncomfortable with families being so close and having the option to rat us out to camp security. The next day police started patrolling the campground hourly, I have no idea if this was our doing or if it was just a busy week but we decided to leave that day.
So this summer we are going to attempt a camping TRIP (harhar get what I did with that?) again and this is where the knowledge of the swarm comes in. I assume at least a few of you are located in the New England area and might have some knowledge of various campgrounds, hopefully the type of campground where my group can be left in peace in a private campground area away from prying eyes. So does anyone have any advice or maybe personal experiences with tripping and camping? I personally loved camping while tripping, we all had a great time sitting in the river and exploring barefoot and would recommend it to anyone. Many of my fellow psychonauts were actually first time trippers and had a very easy comfortable trip despite the proximity of dozens of other campers.

It sounds like you want to get your meep into a bit of wilderness rather than hanging out at a camp ground.

Find a local state park (not a state park camp ground but a state park wildlife reserve) and purchase a camping permit. Yes, you can actually walk into a wildlife reserve and camp in the wild as long as you have a permit. It's also cheaper than going to a camp ground and there won't be people parking kids next to you.

Smoke, drink and party hardy just make sure you pack your garbage out and leave the campsite the same way it looked when you found it.

I personally love to camp but I have never bothered to camp among others. It's way more fun to head off into the woods and just connect with nature for a few days.

I've never been Northeast past NYC, but wotak's right, get the meep away from the people. They'll only try to meep up your TRIP(har har).

Really, some of the fondest memories of my life were tripping with a best friend on top of the CO Natl Monument. We had a backpack with some snacks, Bacardi, a hatchet and a hackysack. meeped with ant mounds, went back in time in idyllic little fern gardens and swayed in the breeze 20 yards from a herd of elk.

Tripping is supposed to be a spiritual , enlightening experience. To really enjoy it shed all the trappings of modern, civilized life. Become one with the wilderness, get out to somewhere it looks like humans haven't tread in hundreds of years.

Enjoy it while you can, Oh and PM me if you can share some hits.

Don't think I'm making the pungent mistake of calling any part of upstate New York 'New England', but I will point out that driving to the Adirondacks from Connecticut is something I've done on a number of occasions, and it's usually been worth the drive. Don't know how far it is for you, but you can't beat the giant rocks.

The Appalachian Trail is one of the best places to camp, specifically in the North Adams, MA area. I can remember camping there, partying like a meeping retard and being able to bath in the springs the next morning. TEE HEE

The Adirondacks have been a topic of discussion for us and definitely an option, our only problem is that we have no clue where to go in that hyuuge range of mountains. I'm currently in culinary school so I'm looking for a place near a large clean river where i can store cold products while utilizing the water for various dishes to impress the meepes. All whilst watching out for da bearz. Right now were between White mountain range and the Adirondacks but still looking for a "college kid campground" but to no avail. After swearing off Family campgrounds I think Back country may be our only option since the holy grail of college friendly campgrounds definitely don't exist.

Anywhere specific in the Adirondacks?

^^ Dent, this is on my top 3 list of things to do before I croak. The scenery on the Appalachian Trail is unbelievable. Do you have photos of your trip?

(edited because meeping geezer got in the way)

On 2010-03-30 at 14:03:29, Wotak asked to smell your meep

Dent, these springs you speak of; are they hot-springs by chance? North Adams is getting a lot closer to where I'm at and sounds really cool and there looks to be a few state forests 'round those parts.
