When i was growing up there was a kid in the neighborhood that lost 3 digits to his bicycle chain. He went on to be a very talented guitar player, but I credit seeing his meeped up hand with me never having an accident while working on and riding motorcycles. All the years I spent in the shop, I always thought of his hand before I had to do any work on a chain. meeping nasty pics!

These pictures actually made me a little queezy.

GrapeApe: I hear you. I don't know if I'm actually dumb enough to make this kind of mistake, but I might be. Anyway I'm pretty sure I can avoid it now. Come to think of it, it was pretty cool of this guy to post pics to help other stupid people, even when it means admiting his own overwhelming stupidity.

This was either swarmed and/or discussed in irc back when it first popped up. However, the internet has a terrible memory as a whole so rock the meep out.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I swarmed this at some point. I'd never forget those nubs.

This could all be resolved with a shaft-driven bike.

I seen a few wounds from old bikers that drove Harley's with belt drive transmissions too. I would never drive a bike with an open tranny belt. Chunk of calf muscle missing.. Shaft drive bikes are great unless you get a prob with the drivetrain... the cost will kill you compared to a new chain and sprockets, plus you can adjust gearing with sprocket changes. That being said, I always loved the way the vmax shaft drive was so "positive" feeling. Belt drives (engine to rear wheel) are nice too, they tend to be a little smoother than a chain, but they were like 7-800$ to change one out. Bottom line is to never put your hand near a moving chain, lol
