I think so. He was and is truly innovative. I can play Page and jack White but I cannot play the Edge. Page was truly innovative and the 80s are full of bands who recycled his riffs.

If you want truly innovative, try Chris Ballew, Tom Morello or John Frusciante. These guys follow nobody in the innovation department. I think that a big part of being a truly innovative guitar player is the complete lack of interest in playing like any of the guitar players you admire and instead just playing what is in your heart. Your own personal inner-grooves.

Jack White has an excellent ear for hooks but I don't think he's as innovative on the guitar as he is with his approach to building songs as a whole - which is what he's really known for.

I'll concur with Tom Morello and mostly concur with Frusciante. He bounces between insane genius and mediocrity. I guess heroin will do that. I'll add Adrian Belew to the list of folks who found a new way to create sounds with an electric guitar.

I agree with you on Edge. He's pretty amazing. It's U2 bad that he's still in that mockery of a band, though. God I hate U2.

I honestly find the edge and tom morello rather reminiscent of each other stylistically. And edge's guitar circa joshua tree is just amazing. Frusciante has mainly bored me ever since blood sugar

Watched this last night. I enjoyed it and I like Jack White but I really felt he was out of place. Jimmy Page and Edge(regardless of how you feel about U2) have fundamentally changed the way people think about the guitar. I guess it could have been worse, it could have been Jack Black there instead.

I found the edge as the one out of place. A great mind for composition but didn't seem like he could vibe or jam with the others.

Fingerpicking for instance. John Hurt has no equal. He has a rocksteady thumb and can turn simple scales into melodic masterpieces.

Jack White is a decent songwriter and can write some catchy tunes, but his voice isn't bluesy at all. Jimmy Page stole many songs and the Edge just widdley'd with echo and reverb.

I do like "The Weight" by "The Band" so that's good.
