New Yark Sity

Since we have made our annual trek to Jersey to visit my in-laws I'm going to be heading into the big city with my preggo wife tomorrow. I think we are going to try to take in the MET museum but don't have much of a plan outside of that.

I know most of the New Yorkers are from upstate area but I thought I'd see if anyone had some suggestions of what to do, see or eat? Or if anyone was going to be in the area.

Ready; Go!

A bit of a distance from the Met, but Jimmy's Corner is a great bar near the theater district - 140 W. 44th St, between 6th and 7th Aves. near Times Square (maybe not so fun for the pregnant wife). A good Italian place is Amarone Ristorante - 686 Ninth Ave. (47th and 9th) - awesome pasta.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, Thanks. I think we are meeting some friends staying at the W in times square too.

I love the bar at the W in Times square. I also stop at O'Brien's Irish Pub & Grill 134 West 46th Street when I stay in Times Square. Very casual.

I was in NY for an extended period in "85 with a couple of horses at Aqueduct. Met a girl in the barn and got to see some sights, not the least of which was her flaming redhead meep. Otherwise, the Met was good, memorable even, you'll kick yourself for years if you don't go up in the ES Bldg., I saw it all green on St. Pats w/ an Irish girl. Ask around on the street (if you can get 'em to talk to you) as if you had a camera crew in tow and find a real New York Deli. Buy meep out of a machine and enjoy.

One thing I miss and regret was not traversing Central Park, movies all show it , but I never seen it. There was an episode of Man Vs. Food where he went to some traditional Deli and had some killer pastrami/corned beef thing, will research and repost for your repast.

:/

I'm beginning to believe that you haven't been laid by a woman in about a decade and it's painfully obvious why.

When I went, I visited McSoreley's Old Ale House (15 E 7th St.) There are lots of underground parking lots nearby off 2nd Ave....and it was awesome... THen I took the subway for 3 minutes and was at Times Square...something you need to see at night.

You've worked hard this year, JN.

You owe yourself and your beautiful incubator the best steak in the city, Bull & Bear. Also, the roasted asparagus w/Hollandaise is boneriffic. Last time we ate there, we arrived 10 minutes before they closed, and no one made us feel even a little bit meepish about them having to stay late. Dessert & espresso were served with good cheer.

I was going to suggest TOG, but it appears to be meep-up.

My trip to NYC was a complete Fail. We boarded the train in Manasquan NJ and I purchased our two round trip tickets to Penn Station for a total of $45. We got about an hour and a half north when they stopped the train at a remote station, had everyone disembark and then informed us that there was a power outage with Amtrak and all trains into the city from Newark had been canceled. We waited for about an hour and forty five minutes in the 20 degree weather for another train to try to make a Port Authority Transit connection but it never arrived.

Although she was being a pretty good sport I took preggo wifey's discomfort in mind and called for some in-laws to rescue us by car rather than trying to brave a cold evening in the city.

I ended up taking my Nephews to a 3d Avatar showing which actually wasn't that bad. Unfortunately I think the rest of my stay here is filled with family commitments and the big city will have to wait for me til another day.

Just remember to give yourself plenty of time for cooking (a field-dressed baby can weigh upwards of 30 lbs and take a FULL DAY to cook!)
