Choose your own Alpha
So a billion years ago, SlitStorm accidentally signed up for Alpha twice over, and decided to give the second account away to someone cool. It went to witty_screen_name. When that Alpha account expired, witty_screen_name re-upped and pushed the love fro-ward, picking the 'you-and-a-friend' option, and we picked godevillivedog as recent Most Valuable Swarmer.
Now godevillivedog is re-upping and continuing this cool tradition and I get to pick the lucky meeper who gets a year of paid Alpha.
Scanning around the Swarm for who's been Most Valuable Swarmer lately, my eye alights on Pete56 and spankerchief as top contenders. Pete's been a busy little beaver in the link comments but spankerchief has been doing some good journals.
Since I can't decide this wonderful Thanksgiving, I'll give the free year of Alpha to whichever one of you posts first in this thread and correctly answers the seasonal fourth-grade trivia question[1]. If you guys take too long to spot this thread, it's remotely possible some other dashing non-Alpha soul will speak up and convince me otherwise.
[1] What 20th-century historical figure attempted to move Thanksgiving to a new date?

I'm killing time waiting for the bird to cook (Slight shameful grin) It was FDR so that good old commercial capitalism would have a little more time to do it's job.

Good meep, you got it within 13 reads.
Want to keep your current avatar? If so, I'll yank it from whoever else has it and you can take it with you to Alpha-land. Otherwise upload one you like and I'll get you set up.

I don't think that's the correct answer to the question as stated. FDR actually did change the date. Unless the attempt having been successful doesn't change anything, I looked deeper and longer for a bit assuming it was a tricksy kinda question.

Actually, it's godevillivedog's generosity, and the generosity of all those before him. Let us give thanks on this day.

I'm good with Mario. If you're sure you want a semi computer-literate a##hole like myself having some control over things, then let's go for it. And Thanks, Vas.

All right, you're in. Here's the bit I paste to new Alphas...
The biggest change you're going to see is the link to the Alpha Queue on the front page. Here's the general breakdown for voting...
The Alpha Queue is meant to bring a little elitist democracy to the links. Ideally, you'll vote 75% how you feel, and 25% how you think the rest of the swarm will feel on a link. If you like it, +1. If you think it's not swarm-worthy, -1. If it's garbage (crappy pornspam, other spam, something broken), hit X to delete it. If you don't want to vote, but want to stop seeing it, choose ignore.
When enough Alphas agree on any one action, it goes through. Alphas can see rejected links on the front page, since there may be some value to these but they're generally not fit for the public front page. Deleted links are gone forever.
Any questions, email me or start a forum thread in the 'Concerning LinkSwarm' forum.

Gotta mail me for the link, since it's top-secret these days. (It's top-secret because certain payment vendors have decided they don't want to be publicly affiliated with LinkSwarm.)
I'll PM it to you.
