Yellowstone National Park - Day 3

the next day i actually took a picture of the sign:
and we passed some more elk:
on our way toward firehole falls:
made a nice detour toward sentinel meadows and saw someone fly fishing:
and headed toward fountain paint pots:

yes, that's the result of a tremendously violent eruption.
it's kinda crazy how much it looks like a tropical reef:

we hit the fishing bridge area:
and on to the mud volcano area:
we parked and walked back to take pictures of the guys above. then we crossed the road and walked back toward the trail. this guy:
was hidden from our approach and snorted at us. talk about panic.

on the way out we saw a young coyote:

we stayed at the comfort inn, which was decent. we ate at pete's rocky mountain pizza, which was pretty good; beartooth barbecue, which was insane; and the wolf pack brewing company, which was ok but had fairly terrible service. i recall liking the beer, but it didn't really compare to anything at snake river brewery in jackson.

nice finish. white dome geyser looks amazingly weird, is it as huge as it looks or is it a perspective trick?
yellowstone is definitely high on my list of places to visit if i ever get to the us, although i'm getting the impression that it would take a while to fully take in, and not just a day trip.
