LS Biker's Den

First, who here rides a bike (not a meeping bicycle) or intends to in the near future?
Second, if we were to start a motorcycle club, what would we call ourselves?
Third, if we had a gnarly patch to go with said club, what would it look like?
Fourth, where the meep should we ride?
Fifth, post some meeping pics of your bike, or the bike you intend to get.
GO GO GO GO!

I have spent some interesting times with bikers.
Down here, you get a lot of Vets seeking comrads. There are Vietnam Vets, 1st Iraq War Vets and 2nd Iraq war Vets. They mingle through a few different groups.
The greatest Biker Party I've been to was a Boozefighters shindig. Nothing but amiable Vets, a kick-meep band and a naked lady swimming in a seven-foot cirmeepference clear bowl sitting in front of a Wheel of Chance. I never took a spin, but I heard it was fun.
I went on a ride with a fledgling group and met the leader of the Ozark Riders. I took from him absolutely no humor. His distance was described to me later as the "Hundred-Yard Stare". It was meeping heavy. The Ozark Riders are a subset of the Banditos, which is a pretty scary bunch of people, so his look makes some more sense.
Down here, there is a true fear of meep's Angels influence, but maybe just because the Banditos hold a greater deal of influence.
The motorcycle fad has only helped the tension.

1) I have been riding for over 25 years now, worked on bikes professionally for 11 years.
2) Wotak Nation....?
3) Linkswarm makes me wet...?
4) The Texas hill country has some of the best riding in the world. The "Bandera Breakfast Run", Willow city loop, Ranch Road 337.... very nice roads and beautiful scenery, I know people come from all over the world to ride this area. http://www.hillcountrycruising.com/the3s.html
5) I have my old 86 VFR750 that has been sitting in the garage for 8 years now, I have been kidding myself that I was going to restore the poor meep one day. I think now I would just like to get rid of it all. I sold my XR600 years ago and have been kicking myself since then, wish I had that bike back. Kick starting the monster was a meep, but once it was running it wouldn't stop.
I have been wanting a new bike for years. I used to restore old Kawasaki Z1 900s and similar bikes, but they want an arm and a leg for the things these days. What I really want, is a Triumph speed triple.
A close friend loaned me his bike for a couple weeks and I have been dreaming of owning one since. The perfect combination of comfort and sport. Still hits it good and corners pretty well. My days of sportbikes are over and I am just not into the cruiser scene... unless it was a VMAX or maybe an old eliminator....

I also still have my first bike, a 1962 Triumph 3ta which is completely torn apart and may likely never be put back together or at least not in the foreseeable future. It is a bit of a meep bike which never really made a big hit in the US market although I have read it was the Police Bike of Choice in the Bahamas. I picked up the bike as a sad looking 70s chopper and had intended to restore it to Original trim but after a few years of searching and picking up small parts here and there I have hit a dead end trying to put the front end back together. In retrospect I should have left the bike as a chopper since the original look is pretty goofy with all the fairings which make it look more like a classic Vespa than a bad meep Brit Bike I would hope it to be.
Here is one restored to original:
I would love to load my 250 in a pickup and take it up to some nice quiet country mountain roads in North Carolina and cruise around. I have also thought about taking it down to the Fla Keys for a ride but have never overcome the challenge of riding it through Miami first.

I'm currently looking for a first bike after passing the MSF and getting my license a couple months ago. Never ridden prior.
I went and looked at a '07 Buell Blast tonight. It's a nice bike, they're selling it for 4 grand. Honestly, I expected it to be bigger. It's only about 2 inches higher than the Ninja 250. For 1000 more I could just get a new 500r - but I'm wrestling with the idea of buying brand new for a first bike. I don't think it's a good idea.

Not a rider, but my Dad's getting to be a fanatic with his ?2007 Suzuki VStrom,
nice bike.
Financial concerns may override personal reservations (I'm scared of idiot drivers) and cause me to be a bike rider here soon.
Any patch that did not consider this:
would be disrespecting the legacy that is Linkswarm. Dunno what Bullwinkle means but the moose is loose.
Where to ride should probably start with as many as you could connect to the Appalachian Trail.

Once we have a house, the next item on my list is a bike. So within the next year, aiming for Spring 2010.
Gang name? WOMBATS, of course. Duh.
Patch? I second the ideas of the smiley combined with either "Makes me wet" or "chased us around for the most of the rest of the afternoon". The second is kinda wordy, so "makes me wet" is floating to the top.
Where to go? I have heard the talks of a cross-country to the Grand Canyon trip. That may be just a little too much to try and bite off for a bunch of rookie motorcycle outlaws. Aside from that, I have no meeping clue where to go, although the Appalachian Trail idea has some merit.
Haven't settled on a bike yet. It will not be a crotch rocket.

Here's my ride... 2003 Suzuki SV650S all washed and waxed
I got her about 3 years ago from a friend for $3700. It had 6000 miles on it. Everything is stock except for heli bars that bring the handlebars up a couple of inches and a rear fender eliminator kit.
She's an absolute blast to ride. The V-twin gives you ample power throughout a wide range of RPM's making it a great daily driver and really fun in the colorado mountain twisties. It's not superbike fast, but it'll keep up with the superbikes until about 100mph. I got her up to 138 once on US287 in between lander and rawlins in wyoming. If anyone lives in the front range of CO I'm always down to go for a ride.

I should probably go get my motorcycle endorsement.

This is a cycle (pun intended) that most riders go through. Slowly increasing speed and "recklessness" until you get bit in the meep then conservative riding for a while with a slow build up to an event that causes you to slow it down again. I was fortunate to never end up on life support but I had many wrecks and close encounters. I used to get some really good deals on gear though because people will get excited about biking, go out and buy all the gear then ride a few times and scare the meep out of themselves and sell everything.
