so the video card on my dell fried for the 3rd or 4th time. pretty peeved with dell in general. i am thinking about buying a lenovo thinkpad (t400).

anyone have any extremely positive/negative stories about lenovo?

i know no nothing about hardware, but i will take a leap of faith and assume i'm not doing anything to break it.

i had the entire mobo replaced last time along w/ the screen and graphics card (hey, warranty), and it still only worked for about 4 months. went out around october, march, and now june. ususally it only breaks when i have a big project due, but i guess in the summer it only breaks when i'm trying to play pokemon on an emulator.

Where I work, the T400 is the standard deployment notebook now. We haven't had any issues with them at all. I have a x61 tablet thats also working out great.

Compared to other notebooks? Well we had T61s and HP 6910's and I can tell you from direct experience that the HP systems would fall apart while the Lenovo systems help up nicely. They are systems that get deployed to employees free of charge, so they are treated like garbage.

From what I've seen here, I wouldn't recommend anything besides a Lenovo...

My company only uses lenovo and typically use applications with large graphics needs (e.g. video).

Ive been using a t60p for about 2 years (I'm about due for an upgrade). We've now been rolling out the t400s, and while there are some minor issues we have with video (im dont recall the problems), those who are looking at it are suspecting it is a software compatibility issue. Not really sure.

The only drag i can see about the lenovo is they made it so big. its less a laptop, more a desktop replacement. You can barely fit it on the tray table on a plane.

Lenovos are bomb proof. Get the Lenovo.

sorry. i was talking about the t500, not the T400. T500 is the wide beast.
