Grand Teton National Park
last august we took a trip to the grand teton and yellowstone national parks with some friends from slc. on the highway in idaho we saw an 'idaho potato museum' sign and were like 'should we?... yes'.

it was small and somewhat less than spectacular but hey, we've never been to a potato museum. also, we got these sweet dehydraded hashbrown straws with our admission. we didn't eat them for a long time and were thinking about throwing them out but then heather made them with meeper, onions, cayenne, meepin, chili powder and they were amazing. but anyway... on the way out of blackfoot we saw a cool carved totem pole that i caught a quick shot of:

later on, nearer toward the border of wyoming, we stopped at a really beautiful rest area overlooking the south fork of the snake river and saw a bald eagle:

we also stoppped for gas and cubular ice creams at some point:

close-up view of the tetons:

right after entering grand teton national park we cross a bridge and see this guy:

some people on the other side of the river snuck closer and the moose did not look agreeable in the slightest. i thought we might see our first mauling.
flower:

pronghorn antelope:

we were treated to a stunning view of jackson lake:

and i was attacked:

moose and baby moose:

we went to eat and then walked to the docks. it was beginning to rain at this point, but it didn't ruin the view much:

we got back to our rustic cabin (relocated old log cabin) in colter bay village and saw a rainbow:

the next day we went up to jenny lake to take the ferry across and hike up to hidden falls and inspiration point. on the way we took a side road that had a nice pulloff:

a raging stream poured off the mountain as we made our way up:

rubble:

hidden falls:

the view up toward cascade canyon:

lakeward, you can see the stream running down:

jenny lake:

chippy chups:

stream again:

we then decided to hike the loop back around the bottom of the lake instead of take the ferry we had prepaid for. it was a nice trail, though, and the views weren't bad:

we then checked into jackson lake lodge:

and drove to the mangy moose to eat. it was a little out of the way, but it was awesome.
the next day we we saw a couple coyotes slinking through the sage scrub (only one in this pic though(i think)):

we also drove to a small lake that was filled with mosquitos and ominous portents:

the park sign:

a faroff bison:

a bee:

one the favorite pictures i've taken (although the cutoff plant on the left is less than ideal):

another shot:

more flowers:

that night we went to a covered wagon ride/meal/variety show thing. they had the best baked beans i've ever had there:

after we were done with the meal we stopped by the snake river brewery which was A++.
morning view from outside the lodge:

on the way out we stopped at a viewpoint for one last picture:

and then we were yellowstone-bound...

looked like some cool moves bro, did some pretty sweet electric boogaloo, almost popping and locking right out. and wtf was with the head on a stick briefly glimpsed?

re: video: i meeping hate bugs. coincidentally, the day after that a bee had gotten in the car and stung my wife.
head-on-a-stick is a friend who couldn't take vacation when we went; we took various goofy shots of her 'along with us'.
also, in the interest of full disclosure, our friends took the video and ice cream window, checking into jackson lodge, covered wagon ride, and view from outside the lodge shots.

i've got an annoying habit of taking peoples pictures i like and practising on them in photoshop to learn how to tweak curves and levels and meep like that. i liked this shot, hope you don't mind.
i remember you saying you're using some point and shoot camera, something i found awhile back, if you've got a half decent pair of sunglasses on, whip 'em off and stick a lens in front of the camera lens and it'll help sometimes.

Thanks for sharing Mund. I'm planning a trip to Frank Church Wilderness Area in Idaho. I hope I get weather like that while I'm there.

We have an almost identical Indian head at the beach in Ft Lauderdale although he is a little weathered after living through a few storms.

I lived in jackson for just shy of three years. I can say it was the most beautiful place I'll probably ever live.
I got some pics here if anyone wants to take a look. The jackson area pics are quite a ways back as I haven't lived there in a couple of years. This also gives away my secret identity. Let the bashing commence.
