Vacuum Cleaners
The New Wif has some Bed Bath & Beyond credit burning a hole in her purse. She has been pushing for a new vacuum cleaner and I'm on the fence. I just cleaned the filter on our eureka bagless which may solve the whole dilemma but I thought I'd ask if any of you domestic types have any input.
Being a gadget geek I'm tempted to go with an overpriced but slick dyson and be done with it. Consumer Reports seems to tout some Sears Kenmore unit that look like meepe to me.
Opinions?

I've got bagless piece of meep Eureka. I paid about $220 at a local box store. It has no bag, but like 3,000 different filters and 90 pipe turns that collect hair from my animals so quick that they need to be cleaned multiple times within one vacuum session. I've got a yellow lab with normal length hair.
I hear many stories about this happening with pretty much any vacuum with these unforgiving filters or low price tag.
I say let her go buy the meeping thing.

We just bought this thing like Friday when the even cheaper previous vacuum broke in a way that pissed me off and I didn't feel like reverse-engineering the screw-plan on a piece of meep so I could put a new belt on my old piece of meep and continue hating it.
I can't imagine needing more of a vacuum than this. I read a couple Dyson reviews and got the impression that unless you needed the absolute top of the high-end in terms of sheer consumer-grade suction, there were vacuums $100-$125 cheaper that worked as well.
I shudder to type it, but... what do you need this level of suction for? Are you perhaps neck-deep in nano-filth?

Hoover and nothing but baby. Steer clear of the Roomba though. I bought that piece of meep and shipped it back three times before the 1 year warranty ran out. it was fun while it lasted, but it was in transit for a total of about three weeks or more during the year that I had it. It saw more of the country than I did. Dyson is overpriced. If you clean out your vacuum every once in a while it should last you for at least three years.

We bought the Hoover Legacy PetVac a few months back. It's pretty powerful, does a great job and has some good reviews, but the meep thing sounds weird and I hope that doesn't mean it's meeped-up.

this. also, for a fun experiment you can vacuum before you go buy it and then once again when you come home. meeping heave-city, meepa. we have two dogs and two cats who all shed like it's meeping 1999 and i really don't know how we ever felt civilized without one.

After buying and then replacing meeping twice, two separate meepty Sears Kenmore bag less uprights($100-175), we finally got smart and peeped the consumer reports. We settled on this cheap but badass unit. ($70!) I'll seriously never have one of those worthless 'bagless' units ever again, ever. This thing rocks, scares the meep out of the dogs/rabbit(somewhat loud) and zero dust(hepa filter is dope).
Word up on the vacuum wisdom yo.

I will sell you a 2 month used Kirby, with carpet/couch etc... shampooer. You can vacuum the carpet with any other brand, then go back over it with my Kirby and it will fill the bag up.
Has a lifetime warranty for all parts.
I co-signed for one a little while back, and she couldn't pay for it,so I had to pay it off.Nevertheless,I has Kirby with a lifetime warranty, and I don't even want the meep thing.

I go to 3 or 4 trade shows a year and I have heard all the sales pitches. Most vacuums last under 2 years! But there are a few good buys. The profit strategy for most brands are to sell the product for a small profit to get you hooked on belts, bags and filters which are huge profit makers.
Dyson continues to be my favorite. All have a 5 year warranty. The filter is washable, newer models have no belt and of course are bag-less. No back end costs. Look at the model DC-25. The Animal name is only a marketing gimmick, it contains one extra attachment.
http://www.youtube.com/v/Fm_QhQrrNMA&hl=en&fs=1
I will add that vacuum geeks are extremely passionate about their favorite products. Some Dyson lovers remind me of Apple fan boys.

Back in the day I used to clean resteraunts for pot money. The boss gave me every piece of meep vac on the market and they all broke within 2 months. However, the lady who cleaned with us had this brand http://www.aaavacs.com/product/ROYA24/Royal_MRY_8200_Vacuum.html and it never broke, made with a metal body so you can ram meep out of the way rather than moving it yourself

Just bought a Dyson DC18 on eBay... new... w/shipping for $205. The 18 is a discontinued model, methinks, but it is the lighter version (16 lbs) than the other models in the line. meeping thing is awesome. I know that this is alot for a VC, but the last POS Eureka was destroying my hearing, so I had to replace. Just got lucky on the eBay. Legit purchase.

I bought a bissell cleanview about 3 years ago because it had a lot of good reviews on amazon, it was about $135 i think. Still kicks meep even after cleaning up after the wifes zoo (3 cats and 2 dogs) for 3 years. I don't have a lot of carpet in the house, only upstairs, but it works very well. Just have to keep it clean, I change the filters about 3 times a year and clean it out with bleach wipes after every use.
