Thanks, dood. I was looking for that thread, but got lazy and threw this one out there.

I'm not too concerned with losing the copper as I have run copper in a couple of houses. If I need to go back, it shouldn't be a problem.

The speed looks very promising... Very promising INDEED.

I'm anxious to dump DirecTV for my television as well. It seems like there is a fuking glitch everytime I try to order or change something and don't get me started on reception during a storm. It seems like anytime a hummingbird farts, I lose signal.

Hummingbrids are trans-dimensional beings. Any real testing will require CERN to pull their tiny feathered meep back through the rift... But that'd probably screw with my signal as well.

I don't think that's full fiber service like FIOS. Isn't it coax off the street to your demarc? What's your speed going to be?

I believe they have the option of running fiber direct (FTTP) or splicing onto a node that is 3,000 to 5,000 feet from your fuking house (FTTN)... THinking about it now, my neighborhood is older, but is surrounded by newer homes. I bet I'm gonna get the meep FTTN.

I have to call today to iron out a few installation details and I'll ask then.

That's terrible if it's not a typo. Do you mean 15 down? Even then it's meepty when you think about the capabilities of fiber.

Perhaps that's 1.5MB/s down?

SN is correct. It's fiber to the dmark/node and copper to your haus, which is exactly what the cable company does these days. I considered the U-Verse thing at one point. It wasn't that much cheaper than TWC AND you can't tune two HD channels at once (currently) so meep. that. The biggest difference between the two is that your TV would come over a truly IP interface as opposed to a separate frequency.

I, for one, welcome our new HD-DirecTV overlords.

meep, that's nice. I only get about 6700 down and 2000 up with roadrunner cable. AT&T came around about a year ago asking if I would be interested in the u-verse deal, I stupidly said no. 2 months later my overall cable bill jumped up by about 45%, now AT&T says that u-verse isn't available in my hood and no set date for it to be. boo.

I did a little more digging, and discovered that my area got bumped to DOCSIS 3.0, which would explain the ridiculous speeds I'm now seeing.

No increase in $$ + 3x my old speeds = Clavojoy

I feel ya. I ain't there yet , but my Comcast has been getting progressively faster over the past year or so.
