Good for you! How long will you be there? A long weekend? A week? Two weeks?

I lived in Jackon, WY for three years, so I know a bit about the area. If you're looking for a nice overnighter in yellowstone, check out Union Falls. Its absolutely fantastic. Be prepared to do a couple of river crossings. There's really a ridiculous amount of hikes in yellowstone, it's bigger than most states in new england. Once you head down into Grand Teton National Park, I would highly recommend going up cascade canyon. It's phenomenal back there and there are tons of waterfalls. The whole canyon(especially once you get to the very back of it by Schoolroom Glacier is just chock full of giant waterfalls. Paintbrush canyon is awesome and known for it's abundant wildflowers. Both of these hikes require that you be in decent shape. On any backcountry hike you should bring Bear Spray, as there are usually a couple of deaths each year because of stupid tourists take flash photos of bears and pissing them off. A grizzly bear WILL kick your meep, and bear spray is a good defense. . An easy and beautiful hike is the Jade Lakes up togwotee pass(by brooks lake lodge). For a great view just outside of town check out jackson peak(that will get your lungs pumping). If you want a guide book, then I'd recommend "Jackson Hole Hikes", by Rebecca Woods(it's by far the best guide there is to the region). If you're in jackson for a night or two, check out the cowboy bar(cheesy country bar with saddles for seats), Check out the Mangy Moose in teton village to gawk at the cute trustafarian girls living in their daddies ski condos, stop at DOG(Down on Glen) for a kickass breakfast burrito. Or if you want a cheap sit down breakfast then go to bubba's. Avoid the village inn at all costs. Hard Drive cafe is a good place to grab a cup of joe and hop on the intarweb(and they take their coffee meep seriously there too, I knew the owner for a while and she flew in someone from italy to teach her crew how to make espresso the RIGHT way). Teton Thai has the best Thai food in town. Backcountry provisions is the best sandwich shop. Sidewinders has decent "american style" food at a good price. Snake River Brewery is my favorite microbrewery of all time in the entire US. If they have a pilsner or helles on tap then you're in luck. All their beers are excellent, as the many first place GABF banners hanging around the ceiling will tell you. There's a rock climbing gym called exposure that is in the south part of town if you want to do some rock climbing in air conditioning. I know that area like the back of my hand so if you have any specific questions then I can probably answer them or at least guide you in some way.

Have fun!

thanks for the reply.

we're flying into slc to meet up with friends then driving up. two nights in the tetons, three/four nights in yellowstone.

we're just doing day hikes and will be staying at the lodges.

we want to do the lake jenny hike, and i've heard of cascade canyon.

in yellowstone we want to see some of the pools and geysers as well as some of the falls in that area.

it's a little daunting knowing how huge it is so i just want to narrow some stuff down as far as what to look at. i'll take a look at my list tomorrow and update this post.
