Oil and your life?

Since gas is way the meep up I was wondering what you @'s are doing to save money. I drive .9 miles the long way to work so I realy don't feal the crunch that others are fealing at the moment. A tank of gas in a 4x4 last over 1 month due to my short distance. How are you guys dealing with it?

Decider: Admin

you should bicycle if your work is only 0.9 miles away =[

it's all about carpooling for me though =]

I'm driving faster, and more often to expand my carbon footprint while it's still legal to breathe, and burn as many dinosaurs as possible because...I hate dinosaurs.

I drive 60 miles+ each way to work. I bought this

and average 38 mpg on the trip. Still costs me A$100.00 or so a week though.

I let my cars rego lapse and resurrected my motor bike from the dead, cheap and fun!

My gas bill is over $300 a month. My 4x4 sits parked, I only use it to tow my boat which also now costs over $100 to fill up for the day :( I end up driving my VW Golf most of the time but I still wish it got better MPG.

My Commute is only about 7mi from my house to work but my Fiancee currently lives 37mi away. So we get stuck doing a lot of commuting and It absolutely sucks. I've been working on using the commuter train more but because of the daily heat and rain here it is almost impractical to bike to and from the train station.

Our Power company is raising rates another16% this summer too.

well, the plus is my wife and i work at the same place so we carpool every day.

the minus is that we have to drive home at lunch to let the puppy out, so we've basically doubled our gas usage.

we live about 14 miles from work and i don't drive very conservatively. its a 4-cyl accord and we're basically filling up once a week at $50.

during the initial shock of the rate hike i started riding my bike to the bus stop which naturally required a $3.00 energy refuel a la donuts from the shop directly behind my environmentally friendly destination. that plus the $1.25 fare both ways ended up costing about $1.50, 2 hours, and 1.4 lbs. more than a 22 mile round trip in a jetta, so i meeped it.

i have started packing a lunch so as not to drive anywhere but to and from work and after a thrashed rear derailleur, bent rim, and a wicked case of road rash i started longboardng on trips 5 miles or less from my house.

dragonstaff - 38 mpg has to mean, like, meters per gator or something, right?

I have a civic hatchback, which I just gave a tune up and valve adjustment and am now getting about 35mpg in the city with AC on... wanted to buy a new matrix, but I work 27 miles from home and need to save on the gas. Thought about a motorcycle, but the mean streets of san antonio are just a tad bit too crazy these days for daily commuting on 2 wheels. The wife drives a toyota T-100, because you have to have at least one truck in the family, but she is working from home these days so there is almost no fuel cost on her side.

meep you j00!

On a side note, I went to Seatlle a few years back on a road trip for my company. The Maintinance Director pulled up in a meeped up rusted out diesel rabbit. After the usual greatings and ribbing about such a meep car he told me why he drives it. Then it was barely ok. Now he's a meeping genious. They share a hanger with the Boeing Corporation. Boeing takes fuel samples EVERY morning from the plane to look for water and other contaminits from there 737. This sample gas cannot be reused in planes so it is supposed to be picked up by a HazMat dispolsel guy. They get charged by the gallon. This smart mother meeper takes some of this jet fuel and fills his tank up every week. I don't think he has bought gas in over 3 years now.

*Emo cries

Its about 12 miles round trip for me to work. I used to commute about 60 round trip. My 4x4 96 4runner averages about 17mpg after I modified the air intake box and put a K&N filter in it and added a flowmaster SUV 50 series muffler. I meeping love this car but it only gets like 15 city and NEVER better than 19(at most) highway. Drving it nowdays is becoming more of a luxury. (I collect and recycle cans and bottles when I can to help offset the gas cost ftw!)

Oh, our other car is Matrix. That meeper gets like 30 city and 38 highway. Coming back from meeping Vegas a few months ago, between Barstow and Bakersfield we averaged 45 meeping MPG. Eat your heart out prius-o-meep.

Edit:go meep yo self

Drive the Accord about 30 mi. to and from work. Fill up cost about $60 a week. If my oldest daughter wants to come visit, I blow through a tank of gas in two days going to pick her up. Luckily she's of the age now that she has high school meep to do and doesn't want to spend every weekend hanging out with her stupid Dad, so it kinda works out.

Working on trying to get my boss to bite off on allowing us to work a four day schedule. Not holding my breath though.

In LA, gas prices, commutes, all that meep is run o the mill. ("L.A. Story" ftw)

In any case, I'm in with Loki.

I'm driving faster, and more often to expand my carbon footprint while it's still legal to breathe, and burn as many dinosaurs as possible because...I hate dinosaurs.

I also smoke like a chimney and burn people's recyclables at random.

I'm a private contractor so I gotta drive all over the place every day. Fuel's over $5 a gallon up here in Canada, but I can kinda take peace in the fact the economy here is completely oil-driven.

I think I figured my fuel costs were around $150 a week in my 2000 CRV.

summer job: 3 minute commute. i usually go have fun once a week, which costs me 60miles worth of gas, total.

i fill up once every two weeks, which costs $100/month.

i would ride a bicycle, except i don't have one, and fuking dogs.
