Camphone Thread

WELCOME TO THE CAMPHONE THREAD. In this thread we are sending in the pictures from our phones to the Internet.

Here's how you do it. OK? Note that the following instructions, while complicated-looking, aren't really complicated. They're not so intuitive, however, that you can follow them without reading them.

1. Register

In this step, you need to tell the system who you are and what phone you use. Use your phone to send an email to cam [AT SIGN] linkswarm.com with the word register in the subject. In the body of the email, put your username and a password like so...

For purposes of screenshotting, we're pretending your phone uses Outlook for email. (It probably doesn't, unless you're Meta.) Here we see swarmer WilliamSBurroughs wants to register his camera phone. He wants the password meepemeepa, which makes sense, right? Now, pick a password you'll be able to type in easily from your phone, cause you'll need to send this password in with every picture you email. Why? Because email is meep. So ole WSB didn't pick a real great password -- I would have used a couple numbers, personally, because this doesn't need to be super secure -- but Bill takes his password policy very seriously, so whatever.

OK, so you send this registration email off from your phone. In a couple minutes, you should get an email back to that address from the system telling you you are all hooked up. Or the email may mention some error. If it does, let me know. Every cell carrier does meep differently.

Now, on to the good part.

2. Emailing pictures

Use your phone to take a picture of something, and email it to cam [AT SIGN] linkswarm.com. Subject doesn't matter. Save yourself typing and don't use one. In the body of the email, the first word needs to be the password you registered, like so...

Here's Mr. Burroughs sending in a picture of something. The password he chose in step 1 is the first word in the message. This will meet with success.

3. Optional text

When the system gets your email, if the second word starts with 'qq', this text will be tacked on to the bottom of your post.

i expect this part to be among the parts that haunts me forever, much like the rest of the parts. Anyway, here we see WSB sending in some text. Looks like he's been hanging around schoolyards again.

4. The end result

Your photo will be posted to this thread under your username. In the future, if there's enough support for it, I'd like to figure out a way to let you control whether the photo gets posted to this thread, or a journal entry of your own. For now, this meep is goofy enough that I'm Keeping It Simple Stupid.

OTHER QUESTIONS:

Update: No longer sending confirmation mails when you mail in a picture. No one seemed to need them, and they're probably kind of annoying. You should get an email confirmation to your initial registration mail, however.

Mail is grabbed on the system every 60 seconds.

if you're having problems registering, let me know. I may have to do it for you manually. Wrecker's phone's email client, for example, has no Subject field. It'll take me 14 seconds so don't be shy.

if you're having other problems, let me know. Cell carriers are rapturously maverickal so I expect this to be full of glee.

If you need a camphone password reset, let me know. There's no automated way to do that yet.

No, this won't work with SMS. You want to help me figure out a way to take advantage of a free SMS gateway that will pass MMS messages with a high rate of success, please step to this meepa.

If your phone doesn't do email, I'm sorry, but currently you are meeped. Enjoy being the castout.

If you have problems or questions, post them to this thread. I'll probably take long-winded support experiences offline, but in general I figure this is kind of wierd meep and will confuse peeps and they may benefit from your stupidity being exposed publicly.

If you have retarded comments to make about photos in this thread, post those comments to this thread, just like anything else.

It's definitely some dry/lean meat.We used to go through the trouble of grinding up 50/50 pork meep/deer/lot of spices,and make our own sausage.That meep takes a long time to do,with the mediocre equipment we had.Now we just de-bone the whole thing and the butcher hooks us up with jerky n smokies.

I still have two packs of smokies from last year.Perfect timing ;)

I heard a story about a prison in another state that made use of road-kill deer to feed the inmates.(Fresh meat. I see no problem with this.)

They'd grind it up, mix in some bacon fat to moisten it up and it was pretty roundly regarded as delicious.

Unfortunately nobody remembered to let the muslims know about the bacon fat.

The key to venison .... RARE!

1/2 turned into jerky,1/2 into pepper jack smokies is the only way to go,in my book.Otherwise,I think a crockpot is the way to go.Use enough of your favorite marinade to cover it,and throw a hunk of meat in there and let it slow cook.

I'm a jerky/Smokie junky,though.

Deer meat :plus: bacon grease :equals: actually halfway decent meat.

@spankerchief

If you have a pulse there's work here. But really, thirty below sucks hard.

Tempting...
Not even joking. If I could find steady work there...

@spankerchief

It's gonna be -15 Celsius in a couple of months and then much much colder for a few months after that. So I'm totally game for a trade. PM me and we can get this going.

It looks so nice and COOL there.
I will totally trade homes with you.
I won't even say anything to the mounties about that poor girl you have tied chin to toe in the corner there, Mr Dastardly.

so a couple of Mounies went riding by my house this evening

Scope was on it when I bought it.It's one of those red-dot scopes,and anything I put that lil red led on from 75ft,got a hole blown through it.Fun to shoot,but the 10mm ammo is hard to find at local stores.

Yeah,this thing is a little to big to carry,with or without the scope.

Yes.

It happens to be the same benefit you get when you put a scope on a rifle.

Weird, yes?

Though I have to agree that it's still a little dopey for casual carrying purposes.

@spankerchief

Is there any benefit at all to having a scope on a revolver?
(Just asking)
