Poll: Future LinkSwarm Features
I've been hellish busy at work lately, which has had the unforeseen effect of discouraging me from working on work projects at home, meaning I have of late been without a compelling at-home adventure project. This coincides with a critical-mass peak in self-loathing at the realization that it's been way too long since I started talking about LS 2.0, so I've been trying to pick that back up and start figuring out where I want to go with it.
Pre-2.0, which is going to be a fukload of work and will certainly take me a while, I'd like to bring alpha queue reject reasons back for everybody, only done right this time. I already have this mostly completed apart from niceties -- such as testing -- and in a perfect world would be rolling it out today or tomorrow.
What would you like to see in the future?
We already have a thread around with feature requests that had a lot of good ideas and generated lots of "2.0" promises from myself (which I can't find immediately... anybody?) but let's have another.
In particular, I've been thinking about a couple things that may be good ideas but may not be a good fit for our crowd. That's where you come in.
1) MySpace-style homepages. I know, I know. It chills my fuking guts. MySpace is a wasteland of navel-gazing idiocy. Having said that -- having felt it vibrate like a spear in my vitals -- it's something that a lot of people would probably love, and it's probably possible to have it without letting it get intensely meep. You'd be able to make your user account page look the way you want, and the clipswarm would evolve into a larger mini-linkswarm of your own, with pictures and links to your favorite sites and meep on it. Maybe even user comments. Tell me how you feel about that.
2) Right now, the front page is a reverse chronological list of all links. In this brave new web too oh world, some of the better sites list by popularity instead; that is, you see the most popular stuff on that site in descending order. Flurl has a good representation of what I'm talking about. Del.icio.us's popular page is another, and there are plenty more examples I could link to. This would be the default view. You'd still have controls on the page to sort by reverse chronology if you wanted the old style, of course, but everyone with an account would be able to vote on links and drive them to the top of the default view. I've just started thinking about this and haven't worked through all the ramifications, but it would basically mean anyone checking out LS would see the best stuff we've put up over the last hour/day/whatever.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Pictures of fat women?

It exists, but not in a place you can get at it. You'd like to read the history?
meep no. But! Middle-click your links and you'll have this functionality as you want it.

Yes, believe it or not I would. I have come across some great one liners in that box. It also seems to be a resting place for swarmers too drunk to navigate. I once tried to keep my own copy/paste version but it just isn't possible. Who's meep would I have to suck for however much there is to show up in my email?

That's a one-liner and requires no planning at all. This means you're about to get exactly what you want. I guess it also means I'm getting my meep totally sucked out in the next 15 minutes.
EDIT: Sent to the email address in your user profile. If it's wrong you have only yourself to blame.

If "Infukity" could be nailed down to at least a month and year I think it would help with the financial planning of the dirt poor Milwaukee's Best drinkers like myself that find it easier to pay for a yearly subscription to johnlenin's lovely books.

The thing is, although I do not live in my mothers basement, it is her card and as she is even older than me it's best not to startle her with sudden noises or surprises.

There was talk once of an Alpha only or registered users only private forum. I would really to see this, as i am about to post a forum that i wish were more private, bit I need answers now, dammit.
There might be a good thing to come of this. Imagine a mere human clicking on a forum only to see this message, meep..If you were signed up, you could view this juicy, life-affirming forum

The keyhole is a private forum. The general public cannot access it. Only select members have access.
Think of it as an internet heaven. If you do not have access, try praying harder.

A registered-users-only forum would probably be pretty easy.
An Alpha-only forum would probably be a bit harder.
I'd probably put it to a poll to see if anyone would actually use such a thing.

That's just a message that admins can leave with a link when they turn it over to the Alpha Queue, and it's been there for three years or so.

I know this will be unpopular, but it would nice if NSFW images posted from the uploader could be labeled as such before I see them. I call Mea Culpa on this, but the older I get, the less I want to see random tranny meep. I, for one, consider LS to be a news aggregate site, and not a porn site.

Can the comments be made readable without ading to the read count for the link? I tend to read the comments on most links, rejected or not, just for the Alpha comments (great source of LOLz), and hate adding to the read count of truly despicable links by doing so.

LS could definitely use more porn but I think I'm fine with the idea of making people opt in to seeing it. The uploads are already marked NSFW (the "meep" option) so what we can do is not show those images on the front page of LS and ask people to just make sure they mark meep NSFW when it's NSFW. If they do that, we can make it a preference you set in your account so you don't get shown delicious meeps.
Yeah, easily. Not sure why it works the way it does now, cause it doesn't make any meeping sense, but long ago I decided to do that for some reason and the few times I've gone to change it to normalcy, I've backed off on it and I can't remember why. I'll take another stab at it.

Not to be maudlin, but how about a section in the Hall of Fame for Swarmers Past. There are three that I know of since I've been coming here that have passed away. Something to tie together their footprint on the site.

ALSO: All this bullmeep labiaplasti whatever the meep it is, is all meep revolting, and more revolting is the fact that such links outnumber porn (of any quality) by a good deal. this is disfunction.

In this dreamed about LS 2.0 will it be possible to check just my sent messages? I realize I can get the re:re:re tagalongs but if there's a way to check just my sent meep I dunno what it is.

I like linkswarm the way it is for the most part but hey sounds like everyone is excited about updating it so go for it. The only thing that bugs me is when you hover your cursor over a link and get the description of the link, it dissappears after like 5 seconds. That meepin pisses me off

Pisses me off, too, especially since I love that feature and tend to stuff a lot of auxiliary info into link hover tooltips. It's your browser's fault. Every browser handles that tooltip differently and none of them leave the tooltip up as long as I'd like. I could override it with some tooltip scripting code but it'd be a fair bit of work. Nice nudge though -- I should probably put that on the list.

Thanks, yea that's truly like my only qualm. No offense, but I don't really like most of the new stuff you're talkin about incorporating into linkswarm 2.0. Not to belittle your hard work, but in my opinion the new banner is weird and not as unique as the current one, and just in general it sounds like ur just tryin to pack as many cool tricks into it as you can which i think would just make it too difficult to navigate, and probably somewhat of an eyesore. I used to have a myspace back in the day, but once they started packin it full of meep, I was out of there, and I fear something similar could happen with this. Maybe just keep in the back of your head the principal of less is more? It seems to work well from my experiences :P

Oddly, I always presume Vas is trying make this piece more easy to navigate and user friendly across the board. The world always screams when (your favorite website) changes, but a few months later, you can't remember what you were rebelling against.

Is there a browser tweak that we can apply? FF and Chrome display TT's for only a couple of seconds on my WinOS but the same browsers leave the TT's up for as long as I hover with LinMint. I'd like it to work the same on both. It's a handy feature that becomes a PITA when it doesn't stay up long enough to read.
