This is a pretty awesome site, I already found 4 or 5 albums that I could never find anywhere else. I'm also uploading a bunch of meep now, which took me forever to figure out how to do correctly.

Oink is pretty sweet, especially for e-books. The music's a little spottier, unless you really love that generic Euro-techno stuff and/or don't mind being exposed to it whilst rooting around for deathmetal.

I was posting music mostly, and I posted what is basically a rare old demo tape that was never released. Well they have a bitrate minimum of 192kbps, and these MP3s were 160. I'm not sure a copy exists at 192 anymore, so I posted it anyway. (Oh yeah I also had to lie that it was 192)

Now I can't upload anything for a week. It only took me an hour to break a rule.

tisk tisk, I tried uploading some electronic car part databases and got yelled at in a comment.... its hard to keep a good ratio on oink, way to many seeds on most stuff. Its almost like you have to guess at which torrents will people popular and be on of the first to hop on.

It's exactly like that. Avenue #2 is to find something of your own that people may like, and seed it. That way it's all upload.

if you have the bandwidth to spare, you can roll the dice and download to seed, heres what i do:

browse, show all, sort by leechers, look for the torrent with the most leechers and the least seeders (preferably 1 or 2) and most importantly , no one above 50% completed, if your connection is good and you have good upstream you should come out on top ratio wise, also make sure the torrent hasnt been up for too long as it may be dead

OK, make fun of my groveling, but I gotta try.... See, I got a 20 hour plane ride, need some coveted audio books, way too cheap to buy them on audible or elsewhere, and Demonoid and Oink just don't want me.

Would appreciate an invite to Demonoid or just abuse me for asking, cause I deserve it. Not sure what Oink has to offer in terms of audiobooks, so I'm not begging for that invite. Won't abuse invite, cause I got lots to offer.

Explain why you DESERVE an invite.

And demonoid invites are hard to rack up, so giving them away is silly. I would gladly trade though, seeing as how I probably won't listen to audiobooks (reading suits me just fine most of the time).

Yeah, you're in a tough spot. I haven't really used Demonoid much, but if they let invitees' behavior affect the access of the inviter, I'd say you need someone who feels lucky, punk. Me, I don't often feel this particular brand of lucky.

Spend the $15. Easy solution. It's not like you're taking a chance on the media -- you know you want it. Then come back here and cuddle some meep and see if you can beg up an invite when you're not in a hurry.

hey ive got a bunch of invites from learnbits.org, relatively new tracker, specializes in education (mainly IT meepe so far), anyhow those of you who are feeling benevolent and may also have large upstream to spare may be inclined to join. i spend a lot of my time porting meep from oink or demonoid to learnbits and vice versa thus my accounts are continually showered with invites.

ok, demonoid's ratio tracking system sux, any suggestions as to how i can be credited for my uploads?

yeah, I hadn't been paying much attention to my ratio, then I noticed that it hasn't been updated in about a year.

I read that most people have luck by making sure to log in (thats how it connects your IP to you username to bittorrent) then make sure to manually stop your torrents at least twice a day so it sends the upload/download data to demonoid. People say to make sure you have been logged in for a while and browse some torrents before you stop your active torrents. Demonoid isnt a live tracker and only updates once a day.

Didnt work for me, might be worth a shot though. At least I had a nice ratio when it stopped reporting.

The only problem I'm having is with Oink. No one is leeching any of the meep I download, and my ratio is permastuck at .227 :<

I even grabbed some meep I had no interest in just to try and boost my ratio, but no cigar.

On the Demonoid side of things, my ratio was like 576,768-1 for the first couple of days (megaw00t), but has now normalized to like 211-1.

I think I'll try buying my way into a few other private trackers and see what else is out there, if for no other reason that to throw an invite back to Mundhra :>

So you're set. There's a "landspeed" on there but he registered in 2004. We should all add each other as friends on there and create an oink subcommunity where we stalk each other's torrents and discover we share no taste in common. You know, just to make it existential.

What's the point of registering at a torrent site?

Uh, to actually see what they have. Oink.me is a private tracker. If you aren't a member of the site then you can't even dl with the torrent. You don't have to be a member to use the torrents from a lot of other sites and that opens up a can of worms about reliability and prophylactic safety.
